In fall of 06 and spring of 07 I took General Chem 1 and 2. Bio 1 and 2, and Physics 1 and 2. I completed the courses with a 4.0!!! I already have a B.S. but I never took those courses so it was the first time I took them. After I took the first half of the courses I reapplied to the school of my choice, a 0-6 school (I was denied once before) with the fall courses complete and the spring ones in progress. A few months later I was added to the waitlist, subsequently I found out that the waitlist was not going to be used this year. After speaking with a few people I got the impression I was waitlisted as opposed to accepted because at the time I applied although my grades where good they only had a few courses to judge me on. I really want to pursue this but am a little scared of it not working out. I am leaning towards taking more courses which I would need to apply to a 3yr/4yr school. I think this would be a better option now that I am accumulating science credits, and would prefer not to retake them in a 0-6 program. After all this will be the third cycle I am applying for(although the first was just a stab at it applying with a bachelors with so so grades in a non related field). Anyone have a similar situation work out? Or think I will be accepted this time? Or even think it's not going to work out? The thought of working two years hard at the prereqs and so far getting perfect grades, and having Pharmacy school not work out is depressing. 🙁 😱

(a bit more background info I have a B.S. completed in a technology related field a few years ago with a GPA a little above 3.0)

Seems like you would benefit from a 3/4 year program; like you said, there's no point in retaking the classes again. If you keep doing well in your classes, it shows you've matured more and are maybe capable of pharm school. Try rounding out your application with EC and pharm experience.

I think with a 4.0 in your prereqs and a bachelors degree you would be able to get into a lot of schools. I applied to a 0-6 school and didn't get accepted....and that happens to a lot of people! Someone has to drop/fail out for there to be an opening in those schools so of course they are extremely hard to get into.

You have good grades you say, take the PCAT and see how it goes! Good luck:luck:

I know it will be important to keep the grades up, the only two courses I need to take in the Fall are Organic Chem 1 and Microbiology(there is also two math course I need to redo that I goofed up AGES ago). Is Organic Chem 1 much harder than G. Chem 1 &2? The school of my choice does NOT require the PCAT. I know if I take it, a good PCAT score can open doors for applying to other schools, but my concern is, can taking the PCAT actually hurt me with the school of my choice? I know I shouldn't be concered, but I still am. Whats a good EC, and a good looking one for someone who is a bit older?

O. chem is harder because it involves a lot of memorization. But once you get the trends that are going on, it becomes easier. I loved O.chem! Very interesting stuff. Really it just takes studying often to do good in the class. If you do bad on the PCAT, any schools that don't require the PCAT for admission won't even see your score.

Any volunteering is good, there are always tons of organizations looking for people.

The PCAT can hurt if you do poorly on it, but some schools compare that PCAT to your GPA. You might get a slight pass if you get a 60-70 on a science section if you did well in the corresponding courses.

Though course difficulty is relative to a person's strengths (i.e. art class would be the MOST DIFFICULT course I could take.....I can't draw and I have no artistic ability), my personal experience shows me that organic chem is more difficult than gen chem.
