Hey Guys,

I used DAT boot camp for science, PAT, and math, ST: varied from 19-20, QR 25-30 PAT: 19-21
I have reviewed DAT destroyer for bio twice and, OC and GC once.
I used Crack the DAT for RC, because bc RC is too too hard, my RC on Crack DAT average about 18.

I am kind of stress out this few days.

Anyone have similar score and experience want to share with me.

One more odd question:

Is helpful to catch admissions' eyes, if someone is an army reservist. I am about to join army reserve.

Anyone chance me to get in a dental school,
Practice DAT AA varied from 20-22. My overall gpa is 3.53 science is 3.4

I have a master degree in public health, shadowed and assist an oral surgeon over 100 hours, did a clinical research in oncological health behavior, worked as a patient care assistant for 8 months.

I will also have a letter from the oral surgeon, who graduated from Upenn.

Could someone provide me a list where I should apply?

Thank you guys.

What's the idea behind joining the reserves BEFORE dental school? :eyebrow:

Also, some schools require letters from a GP...and that a good portion of shadowing hours come from a GP as well...

Sumin beat me to it, 🙂 , but I will pile on and agree that in my experience the schools I applied to were much more interested in shadowing with a GP rather than any type of specialist. If I remember correctly, one school (Tufts?), actually required that one of the LOR's be from a GP. So obviously if you can find one to shadow with and get out of the shadow (ha, see what I did there?) of the oral surgeon, then you will probably strengthen your overall application. You didn't mention your GPA breakdown, but did your MPH help or hurt your undergrad GPA? Lastly, I'm not familiar with the concept of how the reserves helps you before......I was awarded the 4 yr Army HPSP, so I definitely get the connection to scholarships, etc., just not before you are accepted, if that makes any sense. I'm sure you'll be fine, sounds like you have the ol' noggin screwed on tight.....so, Best of Luck!

I will find a GPR to shadow as well, but I have to do it after the DAT. My undergraduate gpa is overall 3.4 scinece is 3.3 and mph gpa help my gpa a little bit overall.

Is there some hours requirement for GP shadowing, I met a few residensits. Can I shadow them? How long does shadow need to be done before the application? Or there is no requirement as long as you have done it.

Thank you.

everything sounds really solid, but without a for sure DAT its hard to say where you fall, if you land 21+ AA and TS , I say apply to 2-3 safety schools 3-4 you feel super on par with and 1-2 dream reach schools, in other words, you'll be pretty set to deff get some acceptances and interviews, maybe even get into a dream school, just ace that DAT and ur golden!
Thank you so much. I will definitely study harder and keep pushing.

Does anyone have more comments about the army reserve? I might get MOS (military occupational specialty) 68E which is dental health specialty, if this is the right name. I will receive dental assistant training over this summer or fall, I hope. Thank you for all your replies.

One week to go is plenty of time. I feel like I did the bulk of all my tests in the week prior to the DAT, just make sure you review your answers and understand what it was that you got wrong. I would highly suggest taking tests from different places other than Bootcamp, too (even though Bootcamp is an amazing resource). This gave me a wide range in difficulty of tests, and you start seeing similar patterns of questions that are asked. If you're diligent, you could find a lot of free tests online. I somehow only managed to spend $36 on my test preparation...

As for your scores on Bootcamp, they were similar to mine. Initially, I was scoring in my 19-22 for the ST. Then by the last few tests I scored a couple of 26-30. For the PAT and RC, I was consistently doing 17-19... I hated RC and no amount practice seemed to help me raise my scores. I guess all the practice paid off, though. The test turned out to be easier than my actual practice test. I don't know if I was just lucky, but I hope you take some comfort in knowing that your hard work is going to pay off. Just relax, it will better your focus.

I thought the only "scholarship" the reserve offers is loan repayment for signing up AFTER graduation. Something like 40-50k for 4years with monthly training? Otherwise, I don't know why you would join before. Plus, what happens if you get called up? Just drop school?

They actually pay for the school while I am in. Also, you will not get deployed oversea if you do not accept sign-in bonuses for maximum 3 years. In fact, you will get more money while you are school and as an amry reservist.

Can you provide a link?

I mean its tough to say I don't know why I even got interviewed, its worth applying tho if u want, the hardest part is getting the interview, or so I've heard, what do ur GPA's look like
get s-GPA 3.3 O-GPA 3.5 I had a BS and MPH.

honestly thats a little on the low side I think, but you never know , they accept people from a range of differing scores, and your Dat is decent, if you wanna go there its worth adding the extra school, otherwise you'll never know, but like , its deff good to be realistic, pm if you have any more questions...
Thank you so much. I think I will apply anyway, since I am NYC. I am in MPH program now at mount sinai medical school. I hope my experience can boost me up.
Right now I am shadowing and volunteering for mount sinai oral surgeon clinic (about 100hours ) and will shadow a private dentist shortly.
I was a patient care assistant in a hospital. I also went to a medical/dental trip to Ecuador as a dental assistant. A lot of basic science research when I was in undergraduate and Now I am doing a clinical research.

Would mind share something about your background? Just want to compare with mine. Thank you so much.

Hi.
I think you're solid for acceptance somewhere, probably a school you'll be happy with.

The DAT Destroyer is great for ramping up your score in the chemistry sections, much more so than the bio section. In general actually I'd say the bio section is so wide in breadth compared to the other sections that the extra time spent doesn't raise your score much relative to the amount of extra prep time you spend. The DAT Destroyer was great for drastically bumping up my score in orgo especially ( at least it did a few years ago). I would go over the orgo and chem sections of DAT Destroyer before studying more bio.

Anyway, the reason I messaged was to tell you that you don't need to join the Army reserves prior to applying to score their HPSP contract. Contact the recruiter for HPSP in your area (not the same as other recruiters) and go through the process. The last thing that you add to complete your application is your acceptance letter. You should start around the time you are applying to schools so that when you get your acceptance letter you can grab one of the spots while they are available. Typically though you can run a little behind that schedule and be OK for any branch other than the AF. The AF has much fewer spots available. The point you enter the military contract then isn't until you commission, rather than before. I don't know if already having an active contract would get in the way or not.

That's assuming that HPSP is what you meant when you mentioned a scholarship.

Also, shadow plenty at the general dentist's office. OS is fun, but not necessarily the shadowing they will want to see.

Do not enlist in the reserves before dental school. IMO that is a bad idea. Don't listen to the recruiter. Do you really want to deal with drill weekend or 2 weeks a year while in dental school? There is no guarantee you will not deploy during your 4 years in school. I honestly see no benefit in this in any way shape or form. If you want the military, go for HPSP. Or you can take loans and commission after dental school.
