Hey guys. I have a sci gpa of around a 3.1 and a cum gpa of 3.5 so I was looking into a post bac program through UNE online just because the closest university to me is 2 hours away, and right now I can't leave this city for personal reasons. I spoke to some med school counselor who said she would give me advice and when I told her I already took two classes from UNE, she said "medical schools aren't going to take that seriously because they know it's easy?" The two classes I had definitely required work. So I just wanted to ask if anyone could give me advice on this topic? Is UNE a joke? Are there any good online post bacc programs? How do schools rate post bacc programs? I have no clue where to go from here. TIA

The quality and difficulty of online classes vary wildly, hence the stigma associated with them. You're coming into this with a 3.1 sGPA and cannot have people questioning the rigor of your program. A 4.0 from an online program simply does not carry the same weight (a benefit of the doubt may be given to those who already did well in science courses elsewhere and just needed to complete a couple courses online due to personal or financial reasons). Given your past academic performance, your best bet would be to wait until you can relocate closer to the university. Just my thoughts

Yeah I mean I guess it makes sense. But the program I was using I had done research in and apparently is one of the few online programs accepted by med school because UNE has a med school as well.

If you've contacted med schools and they said that they're okay with UNE's program, then obviously go with what they say. School specific advice > general advice online. Given how competitive the application process is though, it would be prudent to verify that your courses will be given the same weight at as many schools as possible

Only an applicant, but considering youre tryna save yourself from a poor premed UG gpa, I would minimize all risk in post bacc since you wanna make it count not only for med school reasons, but also bc thats where your putting your money and time into. Also, coming from a low gpa you probably need to apply very broadly when it comes time, and restricting your applications to only schools that accept online coursework is going to bite you in the foot anyways. Put the time and money towards an in-person class imo to most effectively use those resources.

Not taken seriously at my school.

We expect you to be taking rigorous classes at a 4 year school in person.
