After an automobile accident , a patient's chin deviates to the left on opening mouth widely. His mandible is probably fractured at which of the following points?

a. genial tubercle
b.left condyolar neck
c.right condylar neck
d.left mental foramen
e.right mental foramen

post the correct anwer and justify it with right explanation

This is a great question!!!!!!!!!, I would never thought about the oposite situation
Can any one answer them and explain me
Which cardivascular changes occur when changing from standing to supine position
1- decrease in contractibility
2- decrease in total peripheral resistance
3- dilation of large veins
4- increase in pulse (ans)🙂
5- increase in renal blood flow

reduced venous blood cause cardiac center activation which cause increased pulse pressure i am not sure though. anybody any explanations??

I know the answ for the opposit direction
from laying to standing......................hypotension (100% sure), but that is to the upstrem (great vessels)
Vein blood:
- increase presure in dependent veins
- increase blood vol in dependent veins (dont contribute to C.O.)
Systemic blood:
- decrease C.O.
- decrease blood presure
Compesation: (induced by carotid sinus to return blood preusure to liying position)
- increase resistence,
- H.R. increase
For this question must be the oposit ...........................hypertension.That means increase the distance between systole and dyastole....so pulse increase
1 cannot be because of what I said, 3 says the same than 1, 2 because I said before, 5 because I said before
Conclusion.....all the alternatives are releted to supine to standing position excep #4 which is reletated to standing to supine position

Can some one help me answer these qs, many many Thanks

As right lateral pterygoid moves mandible to left side .Its working fine.
But left lateral pterygoid is fracture because pt. cant move mandible to right side and hence patient mouth remain to left.

According to me the answer to this question is b)left condylar neck because during unilateral fracture of condyle the mouth will deviate to the effected side not to the opposite side here its chin is deviating tuwards left side......

I think capsular ligament should be the ans. since thats the main stabalizing ligament of mandible, while if the question would have asked in terms of non-working condyle than the ans. should be the medial wall.

Thank you, BBKJ.

Thanks for your explanation.

If the question was now, which one limits protrusive movement on the working side...

the answer would be stylomandibular/sphenomandibular ligament.

That';s wrong... I remember from my nose-ears-throat-disease lectures quite well and your answer is wrong.
If vestibulocochlear nerve is damaged the ear is COMPLETELY deaf.
If the membrane (tympanic) is ruptured then the air conductance is damaged, but the bone conductivity is preserved. THe question is asking about the bone conductivity (patient can hear fork if placed on the mastoid antrum). Hope it helps! 🙂

After an automobile accident , a patient's chin deviates to the left on opening mouth widely. His mandible is probably fractured at which of the following points?

a. genial tubercle
b.left condyolar neck[ans]
c.right condylar neck
d.left mental foramen
e.right mental foramen

As right lateral pterygoid moves mandible to left side .Its working fine.
But left lateral pterygoid is fracture because pt. cant move mandible to right side and hence patient mouth remain to left.

Am getting so confused yet again on this one now.....can someone please explain and clear this doubt. Thanks

The question says "that indicates damage of..."
answer should be : tympanic membrane
I've seen this question in couple of the threads here at the SDN, and I am sure about the answer. They are not asking you for a nerve, but for a structure. The question is a bit misleading.

Thanks bombshell,
i see that now.I thought i read 'which nerve is damaged'.Man i gotta keep my eyes open.

After the synapse, postganglionic fibers travel laterally in a gray ramus communicans to reach a cervical ventral primary ramus. The superior cervical ganglion sends gray rami to C1-C4 VPR; the middle sends rami to C5-6 typically, and inferior sends gray rami to C7-8 (and T1 if it's stellate).

Hence ans D) 8 gray rami...

had seen this.. in one of the old question papers... probably the oldest

the ans is D , typo "Hence ans D) 8 gray rami..."

QUE In an ideal intercuspal position the
maxillary lateral incisor opposes
a>the incisal edge of the mandibular
lateral incisor.
b>both mesial and distal marginal
ridges of the mandibular lateral
incisor.
c>the distal marginal ridge of the
mandibular lateral incisor.
d>the mandibular can ine.
e>no teeth at the incisal edge.
1. (a) and (d) only
2. (a), (d) and (e)
3. (b), (c) and (d)
4. (b), (c) and (e)
