I have a question. Does it matter if the research you do during your MS1/2 summer has nothing to do with ophtho? I'd imagine it would make a difference at very research oriented programs. I'm trying to choose between an ophtho project and a community health project (which I'm also very interested in). Will i regret it come ophtho match time if I dont take on this (very good) ophtho research opportunity?

A small amount of time in research doesn't help that much. What I look for are publications and depth of knowledge in the research during the interview.

Any research is better than none.
Eye research is better than any research.
Find something you like to do because you do not want to be caught just going through the motions.

Good luck!
