Hey all,

I need your opinion on a essay for one of my secondary apps.

My mom is a member of the faculty for one the medical schools I am applying to, and she will sometimes teach a class or train residents. Because of this, she knows the program very well....and I've talked to her many times about the program...

Would it be bad for me to mention this somehow in an essay question like "Describe your interest in attending such and such school"

I just can't seem to think of a way to say it without making it sound bad. I don't want the admissions committee to think that I'm trying to use it as a ploy to up my chances of being accepted, but at the same time I feel that I know their program very well and it is one of the reasons that I am interested in the school.

Thoughts?

I think it would be fine to mention it. Having familial connections to a school gives you a one up anyway. If you got it, flaunt it!

I would say something to the effect of, "one of the most important aspects of a med school that I look for is proximity to my family..." I can't think of much else right now. Hope that helps. Good luck

everyone uses that close to family BS though...id use your mother as an example...all secondaries i filled out always asked if i had a connection to the med school through family anywho
