Should I postpone my DAT? My test is a week from tomorrow, and I'm really hoping for a 21 or at least a 20AA. I plan on applying this upcoming cycle. I'll attach my practice scores thus far, and I plan on taking the 2009 ADA exam tomorrow. What do you guys think? Am I prepared enough for my desired scores/to be competitive for this cycle? I'm feeling pretty down atm because I've put close to ~340 hours of studying into this including practice tests...

Given that you want a 21AA, I vote for postponement.

Your Bio, Gen Chem, QR and OC are all very shaky, and those four sections combined make up 80% of your academic average. Your RC is the main thing pulling you up right now.

The DAT by itself is a very exhausting and mentally trying experience, and if you go in doubting yourself like you are right now "I'm feeling pretty down atm...," then if something goes wrong, it could build up momentum and torpedo your exam.

You want to go in from a position of strength, not one of weakness.

I know how frustrating it is to postpone. I postponed multiple times as well. But at the end of the day, it paid off big, and I'm really glad I gave myself the extra time.

Now, if you're willing to settle for an 18AA, then by all means go ahead and take it.

Hi stewfoo412,

The fact you are asking the question about postponing your DAT has me a little concerned. If you are not feeling confident and feel a little more study time would make a difference, I would reschedule. Timed tests are meant to be used as a study tool, rarely do you get the exact same scores on the DAT. You could score higher or even lower. I have worked with thousand of students through the years and by far the biggest mistake made is taking the test before feeling fully prepared. This is not a test you want to take more than once.

Just my 2 cents.

Wishing you the best..
