Yeah, I know this forum is directed towards a specific group of pre/dentists, but I thought I could at least a second opinion on what to do. I am no dental specialist myself.
I really am looking for opinions and suggestions on what to do, not that I will act immediately - I just want to consider on what options are out there and a site like this seems a better choice to go with than yahoo answers or some random site.
Previously, I had a filling for a cavity on tooth #30 done probably about ~15 years ago. About a couple of months back, the filling came off with some tooth along with it. The filling was previously probably around a millimeter or so.
Well, I didn't and still do not have health insurance so I went to a local dentist who was a friend of the family. He suggested a root canal. 2 visits and it was cool, all done. He had certified for endodontic therpay and did the removal of the nerve. Filling wasn't the best job in the world but I was ok with it. He suggested that if I got a fracture or it cracked, I would need to get a crown and to come back a few months later as time was a problem back then (I live in the east and this was west.) Not knowing what else to do, I just went with whatever seemed like his best option.
Come one month post-op, I was munching on a pop tart the other day and noticed a crunch that didn't seem normal. A chunk of #30 came off.
I don't really know what to do at this point. It doesn't hurt, but I can't really see if it went into sealant or not. There seems to be white "filler" stuff coming out from some corner of the tooth.
Any suggestions and opinions are highly appreciated on what direction I should be looking at..
Here are a couple pre and postop photos.
