Has anyone encountered any full passages on optics on the real MCAT?

i've done a few aamcs so far and I haven't had any passages just on optics and reflection/refraction. I was curious to see how many of you have seen them on real mcats.

thank you.

There was one on the 7/8 MCAT that I took. I won't go into specifics, but a pretty sound understanding of the principles (reflection, index of refraction etc) were required.

Zero optics on the real thing for me. I believe there is an optics passage in one of the AAMC tests.

wow, that discouraging considering i've taken the past few days to really master optics.

wish i woulda used my time to review other things/do more verbal pratice

AAMC 9 had one so I'm sure it's possible. Hopefully they'll keep it pretty basic if they do have a test with one.

I had a full optics passage on my exam... plus a few freestanding. One of which was completely and utterly stupid, and trying to be hard in disguise. I figured that effer out thankfully. (Props to TPR)

I wrote on July 8th this year.

The passage was about a prism, with all sorts of things being done to it. Had never seen anything like it. It wasn't hard, but it was more like a mind f*ck because it almost seemed too easy, like "what am I missing here...?"

Either way, study it, memorize it, understand it, whatever you gotta do to get a 10+ on PS. I for one was happy that there was no crazy circuit passages or electromagnetism on mine.

Good luck!

Thanks for the excellent responses guys.

Gonna go review optics now with EK since my TBR physics book seems to suck at explaining it.

I think TPR has an Excellent explanation on optics. I would HIGHLY recommend. I would also know about different eyesight problems/correcting lenses, even though this may or may not come up in the PS. It may appear in a BS section as well

I agree. But even if one doesn't have TPR book, Google is pretty awesome.
