so i had no idea until today that schools were offering their secondary apps already.

i thought we were supposed to get in the generalized optomcas one and then upon review the schools would send a secondary. isnt that the point of calling it a secondary?

but i looked at some of the school im applying to (mostly west coast) and some of the schools want the supplementary app in as soon as the optomcas one. in addition, i looked at some of their apps and they ask for information that i had already put into optomcas, isnt this a little repetitive and a complete waste of time?

and ucb doesnt have a secondary, that i know of, but they require you to send in an extra $70 dollars? am i right?

i thought that this centralized system would make things easier, but it is turning out to be no help.

yeah, from what i read, it seems you have to contact each school and complete their separate supplemental apps.

it kindda super sucks b/c you gotta pay for the centralized app on top of each individual school's application fee >__<

Most of the schools have a secondary app...

I'm applying to schools on the east..

Only school I applied to, and doesn't have one is PCO.

IU and SCO have one, and you fill those out ASAP.

ICO and NOVA have one, but they only send them to you after they receive your application from Optomcas.

It's really all a way for the schools and Optomcas to get more money IMO... Not really fair. They will probably make some changes eventually, but this being the first year.. It will hit our pockets the most.

OptomCAS is big sweaty pile of poo...the schools i am applying to would have received my application 2 weeks ago had we still been applying the old fashion way

I agree. We pay them so much, you'd think they'd be able to speed things up a little over there. It's quite frustrating!

Hi I was wondering if anybody knew the secondary questions that SCCO asks after you submit Optomcas..thanks

I feel OptomCAS.org is a "pile o' poo" because it ends up — for many applicants — costing much more than would direct applications. As for the "set-up" of the former, I don't totally hate it (it's easier than filling out two or three such forms), but it's not quite great, either ("credit hours"...?).

UC Berkeley has a supplemental within the OPTOMCAS application, and they also require you to complete a prerequisite worksheet and mail it to them along w/a $70 check.

Don't you guys hate being guinea pigs for OPTOMCAS? Yuck!

UC Berkeley seems to be a little full of itself, if I may say so. They have an exceptionally exhaustive set of prerequisites; they demand a $70.00 payment with a mandatory "supplemental worksheet"; they have "additional questions" for applicants, on the OptomCAS.org application (to be fair, some other schools, too, have these); and they opt not to offer a combined O.D./M.S. program, obtusely claiming one is impractical.

All right, probably I'm being excessively and unnecessarily hard on them ("You know you don't have to apply, right?" "Yes, I know. Thank you for asking"), but they're being the same on me.

So you went fancy on me and said "pile o'" instead of of. I see how it is, haha

Seriously, I paid an extra $50 per school to re-tell them that I am white, where I went to school, and that I am a resident of Texas. Awesome!

So ridiculous. I hope no school holds it against me, but I'm leaving blank all the optional "demographic" questions. As far as I know, fortunately, most of the schools to which I'll apply do not have "supplemental" applications.

Does the optometry school in Peurto Rico require a supplementary application, along with optomcas? If so, when do we send it in, with optomcas, or is it emailed to us after they review our optomcas?

OMG, i must agree, this is ridiculous! I have so many supplements to do for several schools, all of which require about a couple essays each.....I don't think i can get to them until after i finish my OAT at the end of this month. 🙁.. am i going to be behind from others or what? OSU sent me an email for the supplement today too and seems like there are 3 different essays to write... brrrrrr.... More fees...... eeks!

By the time this whole process is over, countless to say... Too much money is being paid for all these schools...I should probably file for bankruptcy.. lol....

I'm tired of, "Why do you want to attend our school?" BECAUSE THERE'RE ~TWENTY COLLEGES OF OPTOMETRY IN THE U.S. — all about the same — AND YOU'RE SOMEWHAT NEAR TO ME. :annoyed:!

I got mail from PCO today o__o).. So I've graduated from university last year, how am I supposed to "maintain an academic situation in human biological sciences through the 2009-2010 academic year"???? And they tell me I'm missing a Biology II lab and letters of recommendation O__o)!

I have a silly question: where did you get the supplementary application? Email the schools individually?
