Ok... Question... I am assuming that scrub caps are meant to cover your hair and keep anything from falling into an open body cavity.... but are they really?? For example... are woman allowed to wear the scrub CAP even if they have long hair (tied back of course)... or are they supposed to wear the "hair net" looking attire?
I only ask because I have seen woman wear both the "cap" and the "net" and have never asked.... I don't want to go into my rotation and put on the cap and get yelled at, haha.

I dont think it matters. I spent a lot of time in the OR with some surgeons and there is a variety of masks and caps...I was told grab what is comfortable. Most of the guys wore caps except one ortho who always had his hair done up with gel. He admittedly wore the nets not to mess up his hair
you can buy the caps with the pony tail holders that are pretty cool, better than itchy paper, but check with your people 1st to see if you can bring in outside caps.
Not sure about the hair net thing. I'd think you'd need to be covered by something more for sterile purposes possibly.
Either way, just know that there are two types of med students:
1. "Look at me, I want to go into surgery of some type" : Wears scrub cap out of OR suites to places like the caf.
2. Not going into Surgery of some type: Rips scrub cap off asap leaving OR suite.

Well, it's not technically a hairnet -- it's just the ugly cap that looks like one. I believe it's technically called a bouffant cap. I feel like I'm working in a lunch line when I put it on, though, so hence the hairnet terminology.
So why do bald guys have to wear hats? And I don't mean balding... I mean cue-ball bald.
Well nobody wants their surgeon's head sweat dripping into their body cavities right![]()
