Just got a letter in the mail from the ABA explicitly stating whether we are taking the exam in Spring or Fall. They also said two months before, they will give us an exact date, time, and location.
Good luck to all who have to undertake this ordeal.
at least I have another 11 months to prepare 🙂

Is that a good thing?
It's not. Just being facetious. I'm actually quite pissed that I didn't get Spring as I want to get the torture over with and all of my colleagues will have taken them in Spring. Is there a glass half-full side to this?
Rats.

taking them in the fall is better
I disagree. The up side of taking them in fall is that have more time to study but in reality most people start studying 3 mo before the exam and don't use that to their advantage. The down side is that you get certified after most of the contracts were negotiated during summer. If you belong to any of the practices that boost your salary once you are certified, you will loose that money just for getting certified after the contract. Some times it can be a lot of money, such as making partner or not. One minor detail is that people certified in spring have a 10 yrs 8 mo certificate, whereas the fall people have a 10 yr 2 mo one.
So, spring is better unless you need a lot of studying to do.
They might as well tell you hey look we are gonna steal more money from you until you are boarded..
