Anybody know when we are supposed to get confirmation for Spring or Fall orals? I was under the impression that we were supposed to hear by yesterday, but no joy. Hmm.

I would like to know too. They say "you have indicated your preference is..." so I don't think we are confirmed yet. Maybe they are giving everyone a free pass this year!

Just got a letter in the mail from the ABA explicitly stating whether we are taking the exam in Spring or Fall. They also said two months before, they will give us an exact date, time, and location.

Good luck to all who have to undertake this ordeal.

Got stuck with September while the rest of the new members of my group got April. Kinda sucks, but at least I have another 11 months to prepare 🙂

Is that a good thing?

It's not. Just being facetious. I'm actually quite pissed that I didn't get Spring as I want to get the torture over with and all of my colleagues will have taken them in Spring. Is there a glass half-full side to this?

Rats.

taking them in the fall is better

To the OP -

check www.theaba.org

I think the deal is that they mailed the letters out on Nov. 1. Depending on where you live, you may or may not have received them by now.

Otherwise online it says that you can call after 11/12 or something like that.

taking them in the fall is better

I disagree. The up side of taking them in fall is that have more time to study but in reality most people start studying 3 mo before the exam and don't use that to their advantage. The down side is that you get certified after most of the contracts were negotiated during summer. If you belong to any of the practices that boost your salary once you are certified, you will loose that money just for getting certified after the contract. Some times it can be a lot of money, such as making partner or not. One minor detail is that people certified in spring have a 10 yrs 8 mo certificate, whereas the fall people have a 10 yr 2 mo one.

So, spring is better unless you need a lot of studying to do.

I dont work anywhere, where my salary is contingent on my certification. They might as well tell you hey look we are gonna steal more money from you until you are boarded.. gimme a break, Me being board certified is for me and my dedication to my field not for more money or to show a group. those are pretty weak reasons with all due respect urge. taking it in the fall gives you enough time to figure out the flavor of that years board exam... by talking to others who took it in the spring and board review courses who got feedbac from the spring examinees plus you have more time to study to boot. Look it doesnt friggin matter when you take it.... Just dont blow it off whenever it is..

A lot of academic and private practice places are like that. It is what it is, unless you work as fee for service.

. It is what it is, .

the above statement will never solve any problems. Only people who look at things superficially say this
