Hey guys,

I think I'm set on getting the orascoptic 3.3x loupes. my only question is about the feature that allows you to change the working lengths. is this a big advantage? can't you just adjust the dental chair for this? I like the fixed working lengths but they don't have it for this kind. i don't want to accidentally change the working length and have to change it back and forth. does anyone have this type and is it an advantage? also, are the 3.3 telescopes comfortable? the website shows it looking a lot bigger than the 2.5s and i wanted to see what you guys would say about that. thanks for the help!

I tried the orascoptic loupes with adjustable working lengths and ended up returning them so I could purchase DFV. The reason for the exchange had nothing to do with the adjustable working lengths, but for other reasons.

My thoughts: the adjustable working length is unnecessary. You will find a working length that works for you and probably never adjust it. As far as accidentally changing the working length, it's not easy to do. There is enough friction on the dial to keep it from rotating accidentally. Also, they score each loupe with a white pen so you can set it back to the original settings.

Hope that helped.

Hi, Hup, thanks for your input. The rep came to my school about 3 months ago and I got fitted and everything, all I have to do is call and it's ready to go. I agree with you that the adjustable working length is unncessary. However, I don't remember if orascoptic offers 3.3s that have a fixed length. But I may have forgotten because it was long ago. If they do have a fixed, is it basically the same weight as the adjustable one? If I never change the working length and leave it there as if it were like a fixed one, would it be the same? I want lightest one and if they are equal then I'll just get this one since it's already in my file. Why did you return yours? You don't have to answer if you don't want to. I know loupes are a personal preference and all the companies offer great products but I just wanted to learn more about the working length thing. Thank you

Orascoptic does not offer the 3.3x with adjustable working length. Only 3.8x and up. Also, the 3.3x are not expanded field (EF). I highly suggest you go with the 3.8x EF loupes if you're thinking of going with orascoptic. You will be able to see more of the arch with the 3.8xEF vs. 3.3x. Plus, most people that start with below 3.5x want to upgrade at some point. Yes, the 3.8x EF are a bit heavier, but if the loupes are attached firmly to your head using the straps, weight is a non-issue.

I decided to go with DFV because orascoptic had a hard time getting the loupe barrels lined up properly with my line of vision. Therefore, I was unable to see out of both loupes simultaneously. The rep was great and met with me multiple times trying to get it fixed, but he resorted to just bending the frames instead of taking new measurements and getting it right. Long story short, I got fitted for DFV 3.5x EF buddy holly's (aka Tanks) and have been very pleased.
