Would it look bad to pharmacy schools if I took a semester off between Organic Chem 1 and Organic Chem 2? I just finished Organic Chem 1, and I originally intended to take the second portion in the fall semester, but there is a class that I really want to take which requires Ecology as a co-req and therefore I would need to get out of Organic Chem 2 to have enough space to take everything I want/need to. I've also heard that the Organic Chem 2 professor in the spring is of a much better quality and teaches more along the lines of Pre-Pharmacy as opposed to Pre-Medicine. So, anyway, that's my question. Thanks!

I don't see why it would make any difference to an adcom, but it may benefit you to take o-chem 2 as soon as possible for knowledge retention. O-chem 2 picks up where o-chem 1 left off. But, if you have all those reactions stored away in your long term memory go ahead and take your ecology class. good luck.:luck:

Just curious... how did the person that told you this differentiate between the two approaches to teaching?

if you take organic II in the fall you still have a large gap from now until fall so if you put if off another semester that may make it more difficult, i dont think schools would frown upon that though.

That particular O-Chem 2 professor apparently has these little "pink cards" with a bunch of stuff you might see on the PCAT's. Actually, people were wondering where he was getting his information from because for the last few years, almost everyone who took his class came out with near-perfect scores on the Chemistry portion of the PCAT. Whereas the professor I'm signed up for right now uses one of the MCAT study guides to test his classes.

I took 2 years between organic 1 and 2 and it didn't affect my acceptance to pharmacy school. Surprisingly, I did better in organic 2 despite the large gap.

My one friend told me that Organic 2 is a completely different thing than Organic 1. I know she failed Organic 1 the first time around and then did really good in Organic 2. But thanks for that- it's very encouraging to know that pharmacy school might still take me. 🙂
