At my school, Organic Chem I Lab is two credits, so by taking it, would I fulfill the 8 credit requirement at most med schools? Are there schools that exclusively require Organic I lab AND Organic II lab and they regard the weight of the labs in terms of credit irrelevant? I'm mainly interested in the Texas schools, but will also apply out of state...

I think most schools want 2 semesters of organic chemistry with lab so you shouldn't base it on credits alone. If you are really set on not taking the other lab, call some admissions offices of the schools you are interested in and find out (or send an email).

From my understanding most schools would count your two credit ochem course as being the equivalent of two semesters of lab (is it intended to be the equivelent of this?). My undergrad only had a Physics 1 Lab which counts for two credits instead of two 1-credit labs and and all the schools I applied to this cycle had no issues with this.

Organic I at my school was four credits with no lab, followed by Organic II (three credits) and Organic II Lab (one credit). Altogether, I got my eight credits of organic. Between this year and last, I submitted almost 40 secondaries, and only one school insisted that I would need to take a second organic chemistry lab despite having eight credits of organic (it was EVMS). They also refused to accept my six credits of research in an organic lab as a substitute, so they were pretty strict about their policy. Every other school I communicated with either found the eight credits to be fine or allowed me to substitute my research credits for organic credits.

My advice would be to call admissions at the schools you're applying to and check their policy. Based on my experience, the eight credits should be fine, but YMMV.

No, that's why I'm a little worried. Organic 1 Lab is 2 credits, but is entirely Organic material. The credit weight is due to the length of the lab which is 6+ hours.

Thanks for your input! I guess I'll start calling schools. I'm particularly interested in Baylor's requirements. Although it's a high reach, I don't want to scrap my chances by simply not taking a measly lab.
