Orgo 2 has more material? I was thinking it was going to be less. My Orgo 1 covers the first 16 chapters of our textbook and is worth 4 credits and my Orgo 2 only cover roughly 7 or so chapters and is only worth 3 credits... Do you mean that it is just more difficult or is course structured differently?
Well, for starters, I know Orgo is broken down differently in 2 semester in various universities. At my school, the only reactions for Orgo I were those of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and aromatics, as well as Sn1/2 and E1/E2 basics. The rest was spectroscopy/spectrometry and stereochemistry, which requires much less memorization and effort, IMO.
Orgo II exams cover all of the crap in Orgo I (and I mean, you have to remember EVERY little reaction from Orgo I) PLUS carboxylic acids, nitriles, carboxylic acid derivatives (amides, acid anhydrides, esters, acid halides), ethers, amines, ketones, aldehydes, carbonyl condensation reactions, andddddd some biochem stuff. Shoot me now.
EDIT: and yes, chapter-wise, Orgo II is also shorter at my school (9 chapters vs. 16 for Orgo I). But that turns out to have no effect on the quantity of info.
