I just took the OAT online practice test from the ADA website....one of the questions is, "What is the hybridization of a Nitrogen atom if it forms 2 sigma and 2 pi bonds?"

sp, sp2, or sp3?

Here is my rationalization...It can either have 2 double bonds attached to it or it can have a triple bond and a single bond. Either way it would be sp. But their answer says sp3...any ideas why?

Thanks.

Yea I agree should be sp with either a triple bond and a single bond or two double bonds

yea, I def think its sp. someone else posted this question a weeks or so ago. im pretty sure thats an error.

Someone else already made this post. It is sp, i dont know whats wrong with the answer key. I found 2 other mistakes on orgo as well as that one. The bromination one question 85 i think it should be A, not C. Also question 86. What do you guys think..It asks how many pi molecular orbitals pyridine has. The answer says 7, but isnt it 6 b/c is it aromatic. Can someone explain, thanks!
