It's been a year since my last chemistry class so what should you review to have a foundation for orgo. If any emphasis on any particular section

Hey,

This is what I kinda felt like during Orgo lecture: 😕

Didn't really help that I took it at 7:30 in the morning, w/someone who talks like Ben Stein.

Anyway, try the Kaplan Organic Chemistry Edge book, it's like $20 (ISBN 0-7432-4100-2) http://product.half.ebay.com/_W0QQcpidZ1099503292QQprZ2219100. That's what I'm using right now, and it's pretty good. From what I hear, the PCAT basically covers Orgo I topics, not Orgo II (if there are questions from Orgo II, I doubt there would be more than a couple of questions).

Also, there's this book called Organic Chemistry I as a Second Language by David Klein. This book talks to you as if you're a student wanting to learn (unlike most Orgo books, which seem to think all readers have a PhD in Chem). I highly recommend it, it's also only around $20. http://product.half.ebay.com/_W0QQprZ5976209QQcpidZ1189829912

Hope this helps!

For me, using Organic Chemistry I for Dummies really helped me while I read the textbook because some of the text's language was too wordy and the org. chem for dummies gave shortcuts for organic I and good reviews for things I forgot in general chemistry.

Hey, so I know specific questions can't be discussed about the exam, but...

I'm going over my Orgo review book, and it has topics with specific reactions, for example: oxidation with ozonolysis, peroxycarboxylic acids, and other things like hydroboration...

Do PCAT topics go this in-depth when it comes to Orgo, or are we safe with knowing simply details of what runs (or inhibits) the basic reactions like Sn1/Sn2/E1/E2, carboyl rxn's, etc?

I've always heard people say, "you hardly have to know Orgo," but then some people say "make sure you take Orgo before you go into the PCAT" so I'm left confused in between the two lol

Advice?

When I took the PCAT in Jan. of last year, I barely had any questions relating to organic and when I did it was about what functional group is in this compound or a simple reaction (not SN1/2 or E1/2). If I could go back in time, I would've taken the PCAT right after general chem and biology. And what I said up there about the organic chem for dummies, I thought you meant the class instead of the PCAT. So forget about what I said, but the Kaplan 2007 book is great since it reviews all areas and pretty much teaches you everything you should know in biology and chemistry for the test.

i think taking orgo 2 helped during my pcat. i dont remember much, but im pretty sure there was a question about aromaticity on there that i didn;t learn about in orgo 1. good luck/
