I was looking through some DO school's math list and most of them had at least 3-4 (sometimes even more) students matching ortho every year. Is there a reason why ortho is DO friendly whereas other surgical specialties aren't like ENT and ophthalmology?
Ahhh, interesting. I didn't realize the class size was that large
Ortho DO is just as competitive as ortho MD. Most established DO schools have a handful that match ortho, which is quite similar to MD school ortho matches. There are a disproportionate amount of AOA ortho spots compared to other AOA subspecialties. Don't let that fool you, ortho is about as competitive as it gets for DOs, especially with the merger.
Yeah, I was surprised with LECOM having so many matches because I live in FL and ortho really interested me since I am a scribe for an ortho clinic and one of the doctors who practices in the clinic graduated from LECOM.
Wouldn't the competition be less fierce in matching with DO since based on this forum, DOs are less stellar students compared to their MD counterpart, given the lower stats required to get admitted? I'm just a pre med who's about to graduate soon so I really don't know much besides the information and discussions posted on this forum.

536 but who's counting?Remember that LECOM includes all campuses, so that 8 ortho matches out of around 800. Don't underestimate how competitive the best DO students date, because that is who you are competing with for ortho spots. With the merger you now have to compete with MDs as well.

haha maybe in the future. hopefully notAh but 800 sounds better 😉 I accidentally added an extra campus lol
