Hello. My board scores/ grades are ok.... but I did a GPR and have been practicing with the US Army for 3.5 years since dental school. How much does this increase my chances of acceptance to ortho? Also, is it true that you can't retake the Part II boards anymore unless you failed it the first time???? Thanks!

the following items are critical to make an assessment:

1 - class rank in dental school
2 - gpa in dental school
3 - part 1 scores (part 2 score don't mean much)
4 - externships??
5 - any research??

also, i think you've mixed up the retake rule for the NBDE part 1 and 2. if you pass either, you can't retake either. if you fail either, you have to retake them if you ever plan on practicing 🙂

i'd bet that the military experience could add to your competitiveness.
