Hello! This question is for those who are in ortho or have any ortho experience. I am a Class I who is interested in receiving ortho txt for a very deep bite. I have a wide arch that accomodates my third molars and none of my teeth are rotated. When I smile, you can only see my maxillary teeth. Approximately how long would the txt take? I'm also concerned about the repurcusions of extruding my teeth to open my bite. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Without seeing your models/photos/lat ceph it would be a very difficult guess to give you an answer. Are you a dental student? Have you tried to talking to an orthodontic resident about it?

Normally, we would try to intrude the upper anteriors (not extrude) to correct excessive deep overbite. I am assuming that you are post-peak (ie. done with growing). Probably the treatment would take at least 12 to 18 months. Go find an orthodontist! (I'm only a resident...)

Are you sure that you are CL I....????
Definitely there will not be any extractions, because this will increase the ovebite. And definitely they will not intrude your upper teeth because it's very difficult and because of the relapse. Beside intrusion is not a treatment...
if your case is as you said, simply a removable appliance with an anterior bite plane will solve the problem...
also proclination of the uppar anteriors will also decrease the overbit...
If your case is as I imagined, you need a very simple tt...

Just waiting for a moderator to shut this thread down and give it the usual "SDN is not the place to solicit professional advice" or whatever. We'll see how cast Gavin or Bill get on it. You're on the clock...

Most of the time an individual with a deep bite with appropriate tooth and gingival display at rest, and on smiling will have their deep bite corrected by leveling the lower arch...a combination of lower posterior extrusion and lower anterior intrusion.

I'm not sure what would be accomplished by tipping out the upper anterior teeth with a retainer as a previous poster suggested?

What he said. It's not that the SDN staff are opposed to knowledgeable users giving practical advice, but thanks to the current legal environment it could be a potential liability nightmare. Sorry. If you have questions, you should direct them to the doctor who's treating you, since s/he's most familiar with your case.

Man, though, this one was up forever before we noticed. We must be getting lazy (or real lives...? Nah...).
