1. Is there a difference between oncotic and osmotic pressures?

2. What role does albumin play in this

3. Is there a difference in action between albumin and other solutes in the blood?

1. No
2. Albumin acts as the solute to make the blood hypotonic or hypertonic
3. In real life, yes. For the MCAT, no. The MCAT is never going to ask a quantitative question about osmotic pressure. Just qualitative (“which of the following will cause edema...”)
