I know that a DO and MD have the same opportunities inside the USA..aside from DO schools probably sending more graduates into primary care than MD schools.

What are the ramifications of having a DO degree outside the USA? "In other parts of the world, most D.O.s graduating outside the U.S. are not medically trained practitioners."

"Osteopaths educated in countries outside of the U.S. do not follow the same curriculum as U.S. trained D.O.'s. Their scope of practice is limited mainly to musculoskeletal conditions and treatment of some other conditions using OMM and various alternative medicine methods, not unlike chiropractors in the U.S."

would this affect my career opportunities in other countries if i plan on practicing medicine outside the US at some point? thoughts? thanks

If you do a search on here in the osteopathic or Pre-osteo forum (or are a member of teh AOA) there is a list of all the countries that allow DO's who graduate with a DO degree from the US. Pretty much most states will allow you practice BUT unless you are a resident of the country or have good reason to move there you might have an issue getting your license. If I come across the thread I'll post a link ....

Here's a few links ....

Can DOs practice internationally?

Here are some links from the FAQ:

I didn't quote the FAQ because its out of date. Although I don't know how much the AOA updates when they say "July 2006" but the links I provided give the latest information. I am not an AOA member so I do not have acccess to the information that a current osteopath student would.
