OSU-COM Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thought I'd let everyone know Med-X will be March 5 according to Lindsey.

I am going to try and take off work to be there. On a side note, just got word that Sarah received all of my papers and check. 😀 I was seriously concerned that all of the papers were going to burst out of the pre addressed envelope and never make it. I had to lick it and hold it down for some time to make it stay closed. Perhaps I was folding the papers wrong.

What is Med-X?

I know this is probably a dumb question but what is Med-X?

Med-X, though I have never personally been but will be going, is an open house. It is similar to interview in that they have the whole day planned, you get to step in on classes, tour the school and the labs, they have a luncheon, and information sessions are given.

I have been to three and this is pretty close. You do not get to see classes going on but get to see the classrooms (anatomy lab, OMM lab, clinical skills lab, lecture hall), and library. The first 2.5 hours is spent learning about the school, admissions criteria and process from administrators, professors, and current students. A break for lunch occurs with a really good meal (those that interviewed can verify this). The entire time current students are with you answering questions. A tour of the facilities concludes the afternoon around 2:30.

During the anatomy lab tour, you get to handle a brain, lungs, and heart. During the OMM lab presentation you usually learn a simple OMM technique.

Can I just call Lindsey to sign up...or how does that work! Med-X would be a great thing to attend I am surprised that I have never heard of it before. Anyone can go right or is there special qualifications?

i interviewed the same day. and im excited to hear something soon!

I was the tall guy from Tulsa, I'm really hoping we hear something on Monday, the suspense is killing me

Anyone can sign up, as it gets closer there will be a link on OSU website to reserve your spot.

Yeah, there was two of us from Tulsa, I was the taller of the two. I hope we hear something today. Which
one were you?

I have a feeling acceptances will go out today.

It'll be tomorrow or Friday, the committee meets on Wednesdays and or Thursdays.

Just got my Biochem grade - A for semester.

No way they can get an official transcript to them - not even done with finals, but If the adcom meets tomorrow, I wonder if they would take a phone call from my prof - also the PreMed chair at school? Can you feel the desperation in my typing - lol?

haha just go get an official yourself and get it out the same day

My last finals are Friday - Official transcripts wont be ready til next week sometime - No more adcom til mid Jan

I just got off the phone with Lindsey, the Adcom already met this week. So my issue is moot - I can send an official transcript next week. Gotta wait til Jan to hear back now 🙁

If the Adcom already met, we should be hearing something soon!!:scared:

Would anyone that has been accepted mind sharing their stats? Also, what type of medicine are you looking to go into?

32R MCAT, 3.58 GPA, 3.60 Science.

Two years of research in college, hundreds of hours community service. In AmeriCorps right now... National AIDS Fund here in Tulsa.

Man, I am so ready to get back into school... August seems like it's years away.

Good luck to everyone waiting!

When did you interview? I don't recall your user name.

No acceptances yet? Push for tomorrow or Friday!

:soexcited::highfive: Just got an acceptance phone call!!!! So excited!!!! :highfive::soexcited:

Good to hear!!! Be sure to join the facebook group. It is in Phlame217's signature.

I'm guessing that since I didn't get a call I'm probably on the waitlist (hopefully not rejected) Anyone have any tips for waitlisters? Whats the earliest someone has come off the waitlist?

Congratulations, would you mind sharing your stats for the people still waiting for an interview invite.

For those waitlisted, OSU loves the waitlist so don't worry too much.

Thought I'd give out some advice that I believe played an extremely important role in receiving an acceptance at OSU. I made sure that my secondary application and interview stressed how well I fit into OSU's program and the DO role. I believe OSU goes well beyond just numbers in the application. My interview had several questions regarding how I would adjust certain aspects of my life to OSU. For instance, moving with/without my family. I had researched several aspects of OSU and had already made initial plans if accepted. Having a well thought out plan of attending OSU, not just being accepted, I believe helps tremendously. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong but I think OSU wants to give out acceptances first to those that can demonstrate they fit well into the school and their community.

I agree with One,

my interview was more questioning to see how I would adapt to OSU and how would I be an asset for OSU.

Anyways congrats to those accepted! And to those waitlisted, it's not a bad thing because OSU reviews your app everytime the adcom meets and you can be pulled at any point!

28N MCAT 3.8 GPA 3.71 Science GPA Tons of extra Curriculars while in undergrad. Not a whole lot of clinical...40 hours or so. I am an EMT as well, so that is helpful. Thanks every one! Don't worry those who are waitlisted! I know everyone in my interview group at least seemed like a great candidate!

Those are pretty good stats, are you in state or OOS?

I was the girl that came from OU! haha Have u heard anything yet

I haven't heard anything yet, but I'm guessing that since ttjones got the call and we didn't that it means we probably didn't make the cut, lets hope for waitlisted.

Congrats to those that have been accepted! Its a huge load off of your shoudlers.

Those waitlisted: "Don't give up, don't ever give up." Name that quote.. 🙂 Anyways, relax, keep your app updated and finish your semester strong. Its out of your hands, so don't freak out. Every year is variable for the waitlist. Last year was close to 30%, and the year before that was close to 45% came from the list.

Great article in the TW:

25M, 3.73 sci and 3.68 cgpa

accepted in November. I created a volunteer program and my interviewers questioned me thoroughly on this matter. 🙄

I am not sure which one they classified me as. I live in Iowa, but I am getting married to an Oklahoma resident. So, I'm not really sure which one I was. I think I will be getting in-state tuition thank goodness!

Right, I'm OOS so on my secondary I mentioned that I have tons of friends in OK, and most of my roots are in TX....so I have that connection to OK and the southwest in general. In my interview they questioned me about this, they definitely wanted to make sure I'd fit in at OSU.

Abflexer - as an OOS, would you mind sharing your bio/stats?

I think you and ttjones are only OOS accepted that I know of currently. Any others out there?

Finals.....OVER!. Think I'm gonna hit the golf course on Sunday to celebrate.
Next semester I get to relax, only two classes, neither has any tests :soexcited:
