OSU-COM Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A bunch, but it is not a traditional waitlist. The waitlist isformed around the second week of interviewing and applicants can and are pulled off the waitlist throughout the interviewing process. The committee reviews current interviews and waitlisted interviews after each interview week and a decision is made on all of those people.

Not intending to stir up trouble or anything but does OSU favor older applicants over younger ones? I know that age factors in sometimes but does it in this case?

No, not really, they give a fair chance to non-trad older applicants however there is no preference or bias either way.

At Admitted Students day, there were lots of younger "right out of undergrad" people, a few older students, and a lot of mid-late 20's. At least that is how it seemed to me.

Anyone here from the Feb 19th interview? I know saylorsdad was one. Anyone else? We should be finding out at some point next week according to what they said in the introduction...scary/exciting times.

So now I'm "older" huh. Might as well have one foot in the grave

i guess im just naive to the idea of older students starting medical school. not that it's a bad thing, but it's something i was just sort of surprised about really

wow, I also heard from a friend that there was a PA in the class of 2014, which is a slight advantage. Wait, it's a huge advantage hahaha 😱

For those that attended Admitted Students Day, does anyone have a rough estimate of how many OOS students were there/accepted but couldn't attend?

There seemed to be alot of Arkansas students. However, Ive heard a rumor that they arent counted as OOS - at least as far as tuition goes.

For those you got accepted, around what time did yall get the call? Is it usually during the day?

They are charged out of state tuition, but Arkansas provides some of the money to offset the difference.

I guess Arkansas does that to promote return to Ark since they dont have a DO school? Thats cool for Ark students.

Does anyone know if interviews are over or are there more? I know bridge program interviews are coming up. I was told by someone on the waitlist that he was told interviews are over and the final waitlist is compiled. I doubt the final waitlist is done since interviews were conducted last week and those applicants haven't heard yet.

Also the facebook group has 42 members, I assume not everyone accepted has joined. I'm GUESSING class is 2/3 full, but what the heck do I know?

I'm not sure what you mean by "final waitlist" b/c they dont cut down the waitlist until May. At least thats what lindsey told me when I talked to her a couple weeks ago.

Thats what I thought from last years thread. He has been on the waitlist a LONG time, I'm sure he's getting discouraged. I was hoping someone with an interview to come would pop up to give him some hope.

Since the supplemental deadline is March 1, I would think they would have at least one week of interviewing AFTER the deadline

spoke to sarah last week and the interviews for week of 29th and last week were the last rounds. they were going to meet this week to accept and waitlist. this is what I was told I could be wrong and things could change.

If last week was the last round, I think it is kinda shady to be accepting supplementals (and fees) without the possibility of an interview.

Shady or not, I still have a lotta love for them!

I agree with this, I sent in my secondary a few weeks before the deadline and have not heard anything (I know it takes a few weeks but now it sounds like interviews are over before the deadline was even up for all applications??). Did I just turn it in and pay the fee for no reason?? 😕

I know someone that sent in secondary two weeks ago and interviewed last week. I'd call Lindsey and ask

hmm... mine was about the same time I think. If last week really was the last week for interviews, then that doesn't give me much hope. I will call tomorrow to check and make sure. thanks for your input though it's good to know I wasn't the only one who turned it in too long ago.

She said it was five days after submitting the secondary. Her primary had been in for several months

At my interview day they said they conduct interviews until the last week of march.

I meant "not"* too long ago. my primary has been in much long before the aacomas deadline. my secondary was in just about 2 wks ago. she got a really fast response! good luck to her and we'll see what the office says :xf:

yay! if you don't mind, when was your interview and how long did it take for OSU to get back to you after you turned in your secondary??

I had an interview on the 25th. It only took them about a week and a half after I submitted my supplemental. From what I understand, OSU tries to make the application timeline process as fair as possible by crafting a quasi-waitlist that legitimately has no "rankings". In any case, from what I understand they'll be making decisions sometime this week. Supposedly you'll get a phone call if you're accepted, which is unique!

Hey saylorsdad remember me? The one from Texas? Yea this week is making me very nervous. How are you holding up? At least we should be finding out soon. Good luck.

Hey yeah I remember you. Pretty tough waiting around for a phone call, huh? I mean, it's probably very exciting every time the phone rings but at least with a traditional "wait for the mail" system you can relax after the mail comes. I really hope they accept me; I was extremely impressed with the sincerity and dedication that OSU has towards primary care.

We had a couple from texas, the question is a&m or baylor?

Haha my mistake. A&M. Phange where were you from? Its a killer having to wait for a phone call. Just keep us all updated whether yall hear anything.

The wait sucks, I am also waiting on new mcat scores to come out today.

When you called last week, did she mention what day they were supposed to meet to decide?

no I called this morning and they said they had not met

I turned in my primary in oct and mailed my secondary I think around new years eve. I got an email the 5th saying I was complete and had a voicemail from Sarah Quinten on Friday the 8th but had to wait to Monday to call her back. She offered me an interview for Jan 27 or 28. I picked the 28 but due to the storm everyone that day was resched. to feb 4. I got a waitlist letter the following wed or thurs.

At my interview day I straight up asked at lunch and Sarah said the adcom would meet the following Monday or Tuesday

Just got rejected from OU. For the first time ever, I actually feel good about it. It seals my belief that OU really doesn't care about anything but the numbers. I knew after my interview with OSU that it was the place for me; they're sincere, they care about primary care, and the DO mentality is right in-line with my MPH philosophy. I hope OSU gives me a chance!

No hostility towards OU, but I have to say it's relieving that I don't have to choose between the two anymore. I didn't want to go to OKC and ever since I visited OSU I felt an almost familial connection with them.

So you got accepted at OSU?!

I know exactly what you mean. After going to one of OSU's Med Xtravaganza's a couple years ago, I fell in love with the school. It just felt so warm and welcome. Esp. compared to the tour I had gotten of OU Med a couple of months before that. My interview w/ OSU went pretty well b/c the interviewers were so caring. It didnt go as well as I would have liked b/c it was my first interview anywhere but I got waitlisted (b/c of grades) so there's still hope. I had an interview at OU the very next day (b/c of storm rescheduling) and it was such an opposite day. Everyone there seemed so stressed out and the interviewers acted like I was putting them out b/c they had to interview me. I got rejected from OU and I know it was b/c of my grades and MCAT. While I understand that there is minimum level of intelligence required to become a physician, its not everything and I like that OSU understands that. Plus I think OMM is really cool!

I think he/she is awaiting decision since the interview was last week. Good luck, OSU is great.

Yeah, OSU hasn't accepted me yet. I'm hoping at the very least I get waitlisted, but I very much would like to be a part of their school.

Did you submit late to OSU?

Yeah, I interviewed last week. I know it's a late interview but they assured me that spots were still available, as well as waitlist potential.

Yeah, I saw when you stated you interviewed. Was just wondering that you had to submit late with your stats to get such a late interview. Being this late, you never know what can happen. But I assure you, OSU will not make you "just a number", and if you don't get in this cycle applying early next one will do wonders. Just show them DO is not a backup (not saying it is for you) and that you fit into their school. I highly recommend you to attend Med-X on Friday. Just in case something keeps you out, it would be a great learning tool about the school. They will go over exactly what they look for in an applicant.

Oh, yes, it was a late application. Submitted in February.
