Lol how many pullups were you required to do? We would always have army reps come to my university with a pullup bar and if you could do 20 or something you get an army lanyard. 👍

We were measured on pushups and situps, and 2 mile run. I was fast... 11 minute 2 mile and I maxed pushups (2 minutes, 85 pushups) and 65 situps. But by no means a fitness guru... I hated PT to be honest. I just did what was required...

Wow that is impressive. I guess if you do it enough you will improve significantly. How long did it take you to get to 85 pushups in two minutes. You dont get any breaks right?

a long time... in BCT, I was at 14 minutes run, 50 PU and 50 SU. My best record APFT was just before my first deployment.

No breaks nope, and you have to "break the plane" on each one.

Some of the PT studs in my unit could go over 100 in the 2minutes... crazy stuff.

Damn thats awesome. If i go till failure I can only do 70, but I dont do pushups everyday. I should start though cause I wanna get cut.

Yea going to muscle failure is the best way to do it... Every other day was MSE, muscle str. endurance.
As far as getting cut, I dunno, it almost seems like a genetic thing more than a hard work thing. Lots of really muscular guys in my unit that never looked "cut"... I just don't think it's possible without proper genetics and performance enhancing drugs (Of which creatine I consider).

I really need to drop by here more often, I think I just breezed through 5-6 pages of posts.

The gist I got is:

Game Boy is cool and Sega Saturn was bust.
tinkerbell22 has a nice tree and is on Facebook.
Passion4Sci is not on facebook.
Cheburashka is making something with mushrooms.
scoobygrl works out 5-7am.
phathead has a blackberry.

Running is a big part of it. I know a lot of guys that get real during the fall/winter to gain mass. They shred by running a lot and cutting down significantly on carbs.

Can't figure why, but I have almost no strength in my chest. Pushups, bench press, etc. just flat whoop my ass. I'm decent on most other areas, but I just can't seem to make any progress there.

haha...we are like a soap opera...you can miss many many weeks, and still be at the same spot when you return..

"Lemme esplain.... no, there's no time. Lemme sum up..."

Yeah my chest was so weak before too. I just incorporated a huge variety of chest work outs. I got my bench up to 225 and i weight 165. Muscle confusion is a great way to attain results otherwise your plateau

Dang. I dunno if I can even bench my own weight

Don't feel bad. I used to be able to squat over 600 lbs, but my upper body strength has always been on the weak side. It was funny when I was in football because I was a 180lb DE and the linemen used to laugh the first time I lined up against them. They didn't realize I could push their ass outta the way with my legs lol

My goal was initially just to lose weight, but now I wouldn't mind getting in really good shape again. I'm down about 15 lbs in six weeks, so I'm thinkin more long term now.

I'll help, but does that mean I get to come over?

Lol your married! Come on man!

Thats a sick amount of weight. Im the complete opposite. My legs are weak as hell. I only recently started training them intensely.

I'd like to run a marathon sometime in the near future, I just don't really know where I'm living six-seven months from now.

It's funny, I originally started going to the gym again because my ole belly was making a lot of my clothes really tight on me. Now the belly is going away, but my shoulders and back have gotten bigger so now my clothes are getting tight on me. WTF is up with that?

I feel extra bad because out of all that amazing training the Army paid for, I am using basically none of it, except Persian-Farsi and Arabic in the pharmacy, and even that is pretty intermittent.

From what I have learned with working with people who come out of the Army is that you guys have a lot of tacit knowledge. You just simply know how to do things or react to situations better than anyone else. I assume that is related to how you guys trained. The best two techs I have worked with were from the Army.

Do you speak fluently? I took 3 years of spanish in grade school, 2 yrs in high school, and 2 years in college and I feel like I dont know anything. I am however the only one in the pharmacy that can speak enough to help customers with basic inquiries. It feels pretty cool when I do it.

Lol thats hilarious. Back and shoulders are my favorite muscles to work out. Im the opposite though with the clothes; All my jeans are way too big on me. Im on the last notch in my belt.

ooo, ultimate power. Congrats!

lol thanks. I am on here enough so I figured I could contribute my time to such a great site. SDN has helped me in so many ways. Its the reason I stuck with pharmacy and didn't give up. There are a lot of discouraged students out there and I used to be one of them. Luckily there are a good amount of motivational posters and they helped me keep my head up when I was done. I just want to return the favor to anyone else that might have been in the same position I was a couple years back.

That's the main reason why I started my blog and ended up posting here. I've found that many people have been in the same situation I found myself in. Figured I'd do my best to show it's not the end of the world.

I think I'm too fun for mod status though :meanie:

Yeah, well I learned it at the DLI, where we spoke the language in immersion settings for a year, straight. No English allowed. If you were seen at all speaking English, at all, except with family, you were at risk of losing your MOS. So, it's quite a lot different from a high school education where you do one hour a day of it and that's that... LOL.

I am still DoD tested fluent (Level 3) in reading, writing, and speaking. Keep inm ind I also got 15 months of immersion training (deployment) in Arabic AND 13 mos. in Persian (Afghanistan deployment).

All that adds up to it nearly being my third and fourth languages, LOL.

What type of characteristics do you think moderators are supposed to have?

hahahhaah. No kidding..

Oh I know what type of characteristics they're supposed to have. I've been a mod/co-admin at a sizable message board since about... 2003 or so. Judging from the mods that are on this site though I think I'm a little too... out there for this place lol

That's true. Discipline is never a problem for me. I am always 15 minutes early, I never call in sick, I never complain, I do what I'm told, etc. Those are qualities I did not have nurtured before the Army, for damn sure.

And I, too, am too opinionated/fun for mod status, but whatever, I'm not here for rank or glory.

This one always helped me through tough times.

Plus it makes a great pick up line.

Hot Chick: The what?

Doc: The StudentDoctor.Net forums

Hot Chick: Ohhhhh. I have to go... talk to this ashtray over here now... so good luck with that.
