Lol next time I am at a party I am for sure going to post something here.

I'm guilty! To be fair though, it was only because my dad sometimes has football parties at his house

He has a super nerd set up...

I've also gotten bored at other parties and went on SDN mobile but I guess I'm just a lame old lady these days!

Yeah, I am gonna stay in the Chi. All my networks are here. My current boss who may also be a potential business partner in the future is here too. I definitely do not want to lose touch with him.

I think it is a good thing you chose Chitown over AZ. AZ has no culture and is filled with rude, money driven people. I have lived here all my life and I have grown to hate it. It is nothing like it was when I was a kid. Back then, people were actually nice and you actually knew your neighbors. Now, people are superficial and it is hard to maintain any real friendships. I have always been someone that is into cultural events, museums, and plays. But, hardly any of that exists here in Arizona. It is SLOWLY pouring in but I doubt that culture will be flourishing by the time I get out of this place.

lol that is a cool setup. I have a 22 inch flat screen monitor myself. Its dope.

👍

That's cool I like your desk too... I used to have a longer sized desk like that, but with wheels, and my boyfriend stacked like 500 pounds of boxes and other furniture on it when we moved and it broke. :poke:

Now I have a small desk to save room and it's so much harder to stay organized with books and papers and stuff. I like desk top computers because they feel more comfortable to use... I'm always on my lap top but I'm usually on a couch or the bed sitting against the wall and my back starts to hurt. I like the 'mouse' on lap tops better though because there is more economy of movement when you are going from the keyboard to the pointer/clicker.

Yep I think you made a very smart decision by staying in Chicago too. AZ sounds like south Florida! :meanie: Plus you already live there so it would be such an easy transition for you.

So is it okay to assume that people that go to school away from Arizona are nice? I know I ran into some rude people when I was in Arizona while traveling, but so far from going to school, I haven't met a mean person who was from Arizona.

That is good to know rxlea. Thanks for the information. There is so much culture and diversity in Chicago. I have been here all my life so I guess I was just interested in some change. When I look at the bigger picture, Chicago is the place for me.

I like the mouse trackpads too. I think I am starting to get carpal tunnel. 🙁

Does anyone here know much about careers in Healthcare Administration and Health Information Management?

I'm trying to decide upon one of these as a "Plan B", so to speak, in case Pharmacy doesn't work out for me.

A little while back I looked in Health care administration to see what it was about and I know ASU (AZ State University) has a combined Masters in Health Care Admin & MBA program. The HCA degree is a brand new one but their business school is actually pretty competitive (LOR required and stuff). Idk if that's something you'd be interested in 🙂

I know a little bit about it because I'm working on my MBA now and I've spent a fair amount of time looking into possible careers that would utilize these two degrees (other than owning a pharmacy or retail management).

As far as I know... you definitely need a master's degree in some sort of health care or business administration, but I don't think it would be too far reaching to say that most high level positions in a large organization require some sort of doctorate degree. In my mere personal opinion it's best to have a professional degree like MD or Pharm D with a master's- something like MPH, MBA, MHA, etc. It would seem like something such as hospital administration would prefer someone with clinical experience along with business administration.

With that said... since you are looking at a back up plan outside of attending pharmacy school... there is a fairly new Doctor of Health Care Administration degree that is offered by two or three schools. I think the Medical University of South Carolina is the first, and Central Michigan University is another one. You can also look into a PhD program but because this is heavily research oriented I'm not sure how that would benefit you in administration.

Oh and because I'm having an extremely boring Sunday watching football before school starts to pick up... this brings me to another question...

Somewhere in the pharmacy threads a while back there was a topic about what you would do if you had the option to do/be anything at all besides pharmacy? What career or lifestyle would you choose? I'm just pretending pharmacy is not an option or doesn't exist because that's the obvious answer here.

If I had the money I would race cars for a living. Nothing else but pharmacy excites me more than that

That is really cool. I am impressed. I wish I had an artistic talent.

I used to do murals on the side when I was in high school. Sad thing is I only have pics of my very first one when I was 15, I'll have to dig for it.

I used to draw portraits a lot too. Haven't really had the time since I started college though.

Become a nurse practitioner... or maybe a physician's assistant... I can't see myself anywhere else but in the medical field.

I saw your little mock race car set up... that's actually pretty cool with the shifting stick & pedals on the floor 😛

If pharmacy didn't exist, I would probably be applying to med school to be a pediatrician.

I see, thanks for that.

The school I'm attending now, has a Bachelor's program in Healthcare Administration as well as a 5-year accelerated program where you get your BA in the Healthcare Administration as well as a (master's) MPA degree. Not sure if an MPA is what I'd really need if I'm looking to work in a healthcare setting though...

I would be doing the exact same thing! Either that or be a professional athlete of some sort.

Yep, nothing beats the thrill of pushing a car to the absolute edge.

Found my mural pics and stuff

I also did stained glass for a number of years too

About the closest thing I can do art any more is designing paint schemes

Yeah I think sports would be the most ''fun/awesome' thing to get paid to do. I'm obviously not very good at any kind of professional sports but I would love to coach cheer and dance on the side. It's fun to teach the kids new stuff and see how they progress throughout the year and how excited they get when they finally master a new thing. It's also fun putting together routines for competition and then traveling around and seeing how you place and if you actually win something with your creation.

Sounds stupid I know but I guess it's something you have to be interested in.

As a 'practical' job I think most of us would agree that the medical/health care field is the most interesting.

By the way... I love your painting phathead. One thing I love looking at is artwork and real estate (which I consider a form of artwork). I like going to museums and looking at really old artwork too... it's amazing to me that someone's ideas can be preserved over hundreds of years and we can still look at it now.

Have you ever considered selling any of your work? There is a really cool site called Etsy were young artists can sell their stuff. Most of them aren't professional and they are using the extra money to go to school. My grandmother is a china painter and she does conventions and teaches classes it's kind of cool, but my mom and I paint a little and do other crafts and we don't make any money... most of the stuff is just sitting around the house. LOL

This is a collage I made out of colored magazine scraps. It is the sculpture of my high school mascot that sits in the parking lot.

These are two watercolors I did in AP art in high school but they kind of suck because I can't blend the colors very well...

This is an oil painting my mom did the year I was born...

This is some crazy abstract thing my grandmother did on china tiles... I think her flowers and nature scenes are way better but this was hanging in my bedroom so...

This is an experiment I'm doing for Etsy because I'm thinking about selling stuff on there... it's a decorated cigar box... I used old cut outs from a Victorian magazine in the 1990's and custome jewelry... I hand sewed the inside lining with some cushioning and fabric so that people can put jewelry or valuables inside....

I have sold a few paintings over the years. I was getting paid at least a grand per mural back in the day. Which when you're 15-16 is a ton of cash. I'm too much of a perfectionist to do it with the time I have now. I'm also very partial to deep, bold colors which is kinda the opposite of what you have there lol

Originally I wanted to go to school to be a graphic designer, before I started working in a pharmacy when I was 15, so I have developed an eye for design and colors over the years. Part of the fun of my interviews, I think, is checking out all the different building designs.

I would really really like to get into stained glass again, I just need a dedicated room for it. I created my own designs when I was in high school and got to be pretty damn good at it. That I could do and sell for cash on the side, I just need to have the space.

Yeah I was going to say after seeing your murals that you can definitely make some bank doing that stuff for businesses or places like pediatrician offices because every single child doctor I've ever been to has action figures and stuff like that on their walls.

I'm guessing we all know you are from Tennessee now right? lol Or are you just a Titans fan? The stained glass is their logo right? I agree that doing art is usually too time consuming for people in college/professional school. I haven't done anything since high school I don't think 🙁

Nope, I'm just a Titans fan. I was a fan of the Oilers when I was younger because we would go to Texas occasionally. I am an enigma of a person lol

Huh, did you know if you hover over the icon to the left of the thread title that it will tell you how many posts you have in that thread?

http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/6500/image1ev.jpg

Nifty. If you click on the number of posts in the thread (to the right of thread title on the same page) it will list all the posters in the thread by post count.

I noticed these things a while ago. Sometimes I play around with random features on websites, applications, and other programs to learn how to use them.

Oh and on some threads, it'll show my username as the one with highest number of posts  Sometimes I've made over half of the posts.

hmmm jealous? lol

That's very gross and disgusting. I would never be jealous of that.

Also, that thread just reinforces my opinion that medical students are just so rude and inconsiderate. I'm not sure if I will trust any new doctor I visit in the future to be professional and mature.

At least you know that they know how to stick things in your pooper though
