OU

IS - 300K
Pros:
  • Near family
  • Cheaper tuition
  • More family like feel
Cons:
  • Need all new tech because they require windows computer
  • Older facility
  • It seems they don't invest money back into the students based on how outdated the school is
  • Id have to find my own patients***
  • More out of pocket costs (ex. buying teeth)
CU

OOS - 320 K

Pros:
  • Awarded two scholarships (Totaling 60k for the entirety of school)
  • Love the location ( Im originally from the west and I miss the mountains)
  • Professional/family like feel - more flexibility with attire (business casual or scrubs)
  • More emphasis on diversity
  • Optional Masters program that i'm interested in
  • They seem like they invest into the students (for example, the welcome day is a free NBA game and food)
  • Find patients for you****
  • Newer school/updated
  • More emphasis on diversity
Cons:
  • Slightly higher cost of living
  • 10 hrs away from immediate family, but I have other family in Colorado.
Summary:

Im leaning towards CU because ultimately I would be happier there, and so will my fiance, but im unsure if I should just go to my instate simply because its slightly cheaper. I might specialize which opens the idea of applying to OU again if I end up wanting to move back to Oklahoma. (OU wont allow you to do their program AND their residency program bc they want you to experience a different school) Something majorly swaying me is having to find my own patients at OU. I had to find patients for dental hygiene school and it was by far the hardest thing about the program. Are my reasonings fair or should I just go with the cheaper option. Also, I dont mind being away from family because my last school was 17hrs away. 10 hours is much more feasible.

i almost always say cheaper, but finding your own patients at an old school would suck

How's the remodel going?

Also, what about Tulsa?

I do agree... doing all that grunt work for finding teeth and patients is not appealing.

They remodeled one clinic floor and then renovated the classrooms. The other floors are still the same. Which is confusing to me because I don’t know if they plan to renovate the others and when. A frequent thing I’ve heard is that the elevators are known to get stuck lol. From what I understand Tulsa is brand new but does partial online classes with the OKC students when they’re not in clinic. But I really do love the way the instructor care about students. I’m sure it seems like I’m being more negative about OU but I’m just trying to pick apart both schools in order to make a decision.

First off, 60k in scholarships from CU is absolutely insane! That’s so good!!! You save money and it shows they really want you which is so nice! Finding your own patients also sounds awful! I say this is a no brainer for you, definitely CU! New school, they find your patients for you, and you get a scholarship!? Crazy not to! Also if it helps one of my friends is at CU right now and he absolutely loves it and is having the time of his life! He was originally from Texas too! I definitely say CU!
