out of state for texas schools

Oh! Oh! Me! Me! I got it...put neon light borders around all the figures/pictures. Aaannnd...get this....stem cell sock puppets! How could you not win with that?? I so rock.

Edit: Do you think your rating would be much different if the experiments hadn't turned out well?

I dunno, Kudu... that's a lot of work. I figured I would just stand next to it in all of its turquoise beauty and say "Hi, I'm '39... that's all you need to know" and then flash my huge smile. FTW!

haha actually, the figures really make the poster amazing... everyone in my lab thinks its going to be a popular one to see. Wish I could put it on here and show you guys!

It probably wouldn't be as awesome... I mean the whole point of good research is to make it so it can be repeated... but it needs to actually be done first! So yeah... w/o the experiments going well, there'd be no poster!

*Lisp on* Okay, liiike, aren't you a winter?? Are you suuuuure turquoise coordinates with your complexion?? I mean, if not, GASP!! *Lisp off*

Oh... wow. Just... wow.

And I look good in any color, thank you 😉

🙄

haha yeah... no one really thinks stem cells are "cute", so I probably won't have that problem.

I need to start figuring out how I want to tell the story of my research. There's a lot to say!
haha... um... congrats?!? :hardy:

haha, yeah, well thanks....

And I'd have to say nothing tells a story like song and dance 😛 I'm sure kudu would agree 👍

 I'm seconding that wow...

Hope everyone has a good wednesday! I think I should be getting a letter from mcg here either today or tomorrow. At least the letters have started finally trickling out...

Well alrighty then. Wait....even pea green? With sequins?😛

Yes! Like maybe a Rockettes theme???

So soon?🙄 Oh well, make a paper airplane or practice origami with it haha.

I'm not even gonna touch that one.

I dunno if I could keep up a consistent high kick for 4 hours while explaining the poster. I'd win for sure if I did, though.

Apparently my suggestions for avant garde fashion chicness have left her speechless.

Four hours??? How are you not going to have laryngitis at the end of this?

Four hours is pretty long to have to stand there. Mine was like an hour and a half. I don't know if yours is the same, but I spent a fair amount of time just talking to the presenters around me. Ended up getting waitlisted at mcg, my dad called me at work all excited. Then I told him to go ahead and open it. He sounded pretty sad when he told me, lol.

Worry not... I'm a talker. It's the reason I picked a quiet boyfriend

Well, it's split into two 2-hour periods... 10-12 and 1-3. Apparentely a ton of people come to this and I'll have a bunch of judges come by mine, so I'm sure it's a good amount of talking.

So your dad's really pushin' for Georgia, eh?

I never would have believed you are one of those girls who likes to talk! 🙄

I'm sure my dad would probably like to keep me in the state, but more than anything I think he was empathizing with how he thought I was going to feel getting waitlisted there again. All last year I was all about mcg, and probably would have been this year had I not discovered the awesomeness that is the texas medical center. Most people don't really understand that just having an acceptance anywhere is more than most applicants can hope for, so I don't think my parents get that it really didn't bother me that much. Anyway, I had utmb and houston over mcg all along.

Yeah I hear you. I really agree that no one understands how hard it is to get in.

I think my parents were the opposite though... they didn't understand that I was crushed when I got the Roch WL since I already had Mizzou (their fave... wonder why??). I think the worst part is that when I go home, med school is like a majority of what my dad talks about. He's super proud, but he just dwells on it. I'd rather not talk about it.

Lol, yeah I saw on the news it looked like a squal line was moving through your area. Its going to be sunny and mud 70s here 🙂

haha oh no worries... still going to be 70 here today!

Missouri just takes April showers literally 🙄

Off to class... woot. 😴

April here just means pollen covering everything! You walk outside and have a yellow film covering your skin in a matter of seconds 😛 I definitely won't miss pollen season in georgia.

So I was at work today and my boss is all complementing me and telling me how far I'm going to go with the company and hoping I'll stick around. I'm starting to feel bad. I sort of just laughed and changed the subject. Now I don't know how I'm going to tell them I'll be leaving in a couple months.

haha oh man... the con of being good at your job!

Weather here was crazy today! It was gorgeous out at times, and then it would rain a bit... go back to sunny, and then at 4:30 when I was driving home from class, I seriously had to put my windshield wipers on max speed... people were even pulling over cause it was coming down so hard. But now its sunny again!

So the Alumni Association who did all the stuff w/ the '39 program sent us a picture w/ a really nice frame today. The picture is of me when I went on stage at the banquet to get my award w/ my mentor and then the head of the alum. assoc. So much black and gold in one picture... glorious. Super nice of them though.

I'm sure he calls you Dr too. Haha...he's going to call you every morning to make sure you get to class on time. What does he do for a living again? I think you told us, but all I remember is that he travels a lot.

How's your dude's team doing?

Aww...you could be the son he/she never had. You heartless punk. 😛

haha no he's not that bad. He's a regional manager for an sales and marketing company and his sector is OTC pharmaceuticals... the newest/biggest thing they deal w/ is alli... the first FDA approved weight loss pill.

They are doing alright. They tied Ohio State yesterday, but he said they shoulda won since they were up 4-1 and let them come back. Today he said they played an awesome game against UC Irvine but lost 3-2. And they are playing Rhode Island as we speak. He thought they would get killed in this tournament overall, so they aren't doing as badly as he thought. He said they should probably be Rhode Island, but we'll see.

Sucks he was gone this week cause our sushi place had 1/2 price rolls! Dangit!

Aww...you could be the son he/she never had. You heartless punk. 😛

yea, yea, I'm heartless, I'm aware! :meanie: Haha, actually heartless would mean I'm screwing them over and don't care. I at least feel a little bad 😉

The words "sushi" and "sale" do not belong in the same sentence

Alright, so I'm officially mailing in my letter withdrawing from mcg today. Definitely not going to be waiting on their dumb alternate list again! It feels sort of weird as I guess I'm officially going to houston now.

hahaha that's what people in my lab said.

Yeah I hear you... sending that letter is weird. I emailed mine to GW cause I wanted to get a response back to make sure they acknowledged it... and the Dean wrote back and said she withdrew my app... I felt kinda bad cause she was so nice!

Haha don't get me wrong, I don't feel bad about withdrawing from mcg, the sob's did Waitlist me again!

So I was checking out tuition costs of houston vs. my "cheap" ga state school (mcg), if I can get that $1,000 scholarship loophole thing tuition at houston is close to $10K a year cheaper  If not, oos tuition ends up being just a tad more than mcg instate. Gotta love texas 👍

Texas OOS is cheaper than Missouri instate... and there was just a 4.1% tuition increase approved... 🙄

Weather report from San Antonio...outrageously gorgeous!!

Have any of you had any luck with selling things on Craig's List? I listed a treadmill yesterday afternoon and have already had three queries! No one has bitten yet, but I'm pretty excited! It's not your normal treadmill ad, big surprise!

If this goes well, I may just sell the rest of my belongings!

Kinda cold here... we were actually supposed to get some snow flurries today... hahaha and as I was typing that, it started to sleet a bit. Sad... it was 70 two days ago!

Funny that you are selling a treadmill... the only thing I've ever gotten off of Craigslist was a treadmill for my dad... it was free! I've never sold anything on it though.

Well, if this sells, I'm going to let the kids buy either a foosball table or an air hockey table. I've had three nibbles, and one person has emailed me a second time!

I've never actually boughten anything off craigs list. Is it regulated like ebay where at least you can leave good and bad feedback of the buyers?

We're in the low 60's today, though it's sort of overcast and gloomy. I think it's suppose to get cool for a few days next week.

No, it's not regulated at all - it's more of classified ads. Most of the transactions are completed in person, so it's not so much that you are buying things sight-unseen (or just by a picture).

page 3 bump, weather update: absolutely gorgeous, again!

Craig's List update: SOLD!! The treadmill disguised as an elephant has left my house, and my daughter has $140 cash in her pocket for her trip to Guatemala!🙂 Not too bad for a free ad in less than 48 hours. I had 4 people inquire, but it only takes one to make a sale...

Wow... good sell!

Oh, and cpa... I wanted to tell you that I was reading Cosmo the other day and San Antonio was listed as one of the "Sexiest Places in the World"... sadly, Galveston was not, Kudu :meanie:

Hmmm...That makes little sense. We have one of the highest obesity rates in the country, and we don't have a fabulous beach like Galveston.😉

We also have one of the highest teen birth rates in the country - maybe that's what they're talking about!! Lots of teens having sex!😱

Other than being disappointed and utterly stupefied by the factoid that such a woman would actually admit to reading that blurb, I'd have to say I'm very relieved that we didn't make that list...whew!!

In this issue of Cosmo:
Is your guy cheating on you with a purple left-handed lesbian? Hint: Its not always obvious. Take our ten question MC test and find out!

Hair: Up or down? We'll tell you what's hot now. (well, ok...just till our next issue)

Yeah, I was gonna say, if San An is one of the sexiest cities on Earth, we're in big trouble.....excepting our resident hot momma cpa of course. Although, you do give waaay too much credit to the beaches here.

The text of the ad 😉:

Treadmill formerly disguised as an elephant!

So my daughter wanted a treadmill. She asked Santa Claus for a treadmill two years in a row (she was young enough to still believe in Santa). She wanted nothing else. In one of those parental moments of "we should've known better," we bought her a treadmill for her birthday. We told her it was an elephant since there was no place to actually hide it before her birthday and it was covered by a sheet.

Several years have passed, and the treadmill sits unused, taking up space which could otherwise be occupied by an under-utilized air hockey or foosball table, while the daughter works to raise money to go on a mission trip to Guatemala this summer.

Oh...the treadmill! It is a lightly used (mostly for RC cars), power treadmill with readouts for time, distance, speed, and calories burned. It has variable speed control via a slider. It is adjustable to create an incline, and folds to take up not so much space. It is a Weslo Cadence 70e, purchased at Sears about 5 years ago.

I'd be happy to email pictures if desired (of the treadmill, not the daughter!).

I should've gone into advertising!!

haha well it did say "places that will boost your love"

It didn't really mean like nicest looking... it just gives places to stay, eat, and stuff to do... it says stay at the Hotel Valencia Riverwalk or the Watermark Hotel and Spa. Eat at Sushi Zushi and Boudro's... go on a dinner cruise, to the La Villita district, and La Tuna.

😆 awesome and so true!

My roommate gets a subscription... I actually like reading most of it, it's a nice break from stuff that you have to have an actual IQ to read.

Kudu... where have you been?

I suppose everyone needs to read some veg-out material now and then. I was supposed to be finishing my sailing course today, but they canceled, so I'm just chillin', getting some ideas online for clothes, maybe a telescope, etc.

I get the feeling that you're about to tell me that Sixteen Candles is on somewhere. Is that like your fav movie, 'cause its hard to imagine you getting more excited about another...scary even.

haha no its not on... but thats funny you bring it up because I was in my roommate's room and I saw Sixteen Candles in all her movies and thought of you

And of course it's my favorite! It's kinda like Scrubs for me... I could watch it over and over and not get tired of it. I'm actually watching Scrubs right now... I'm on Season 2 again 😀

Haha, yeah I was going to say, brown muddy beaches with water so murky you can't see your hand five inches below the water, isn't exactly Cabo...

Or used car sales...pretty slick haha. Anything else going up for sale?

hey! Be nice! I included stuffed elephants in the photos that I took. It did sell in <48 hours, and there was not even a slight stretching of the truth in the story. My daughter is now that much closer to the money she needs to go help the orphan girls in Guatemala, and we have a nice big space in the game room.😀

I do NOT want to be within 5 miles of you the day Scrubs finally gets the axe...how will you go on living haha? Is there a 1a next to 16 candles on your movie list? Besides the director's cut of it haha?

Just for giggles:

Scrubs is actually in it's last season right now 👎

Galveston might not have the prettiest water... but the seafood is dang good... and probably not the safest... but still good! 🙄

Man, I haven't played air hockey in years. My grandfather had one in the basement of his lakehouse...it was the best part of visiting them haha.

Is she going this summer?

Ouch. It will go down as one of the best ever though. Hard to keep a series that good for so long. No wonder apps for med school are up haha.

Air hockey is a lot of fun. I'm going to make them buy it though - off of Craig's List!

Yes, my 12-year-old daughter is going to Guatemala with a group from our church (almost all adults) August 2-9. She is very excited. I'm scared to death, but it is truly something she feels called to do. Our church is giving out two scholarships to kids in the youth group, and she wrote an amazing essay about why missions is important to her. She's always been very mission-oriented, and has dragged me along into it. I can't go to Guatemala, though, because that is the first week of class!!

That's really cool... kudos to her! And to you for letting her go... I've told my parents about the international stuff you can do in med school and they get all nervous about it 😛

Guess I'll be the same way though when I have kids

The good news is that I've known many of the people she's going with for a very long time, and trust them totally. It's really weird, though. I NEVER would've thought about such a thing - at age 12 or any time. It's something deep inside her. The worst part for me is that she leaves on the day of my White Coat Ceremony. I don't dare tell her - she'd be devestated.

Hopefully we'll find out about the scholarship this week - it's worth $900...which may as well be a million to a 12 year old!

She sounds wise beyond her years. Too bad about the ceremony, but she'll be just as excited when she sees you in it for the first time anyway 👍

Shoot... 900 is a million to a 21 year old too! A 21 year old who turns 22 on Friday... :scared:
