Hello everyone,

I really want to go to Texas for dental school. I was wondering what the OOS people did to get into Texas dental schools and if you have any advice for me.

Any and all advice would be appreciated!

High DAT score, convincing ties to Texas

Good grades, good DAT, and be very well-rounded/show strong leadership (i.e., have a strong resume/CV). DM me if you have any questions. I got into all three schools this cycle as an OOS applicant! I'll also add to make sure you have a good, genuine personal statement. After reading your statement, they should be able to know who you are as a person/(maybe your background, if relevant), why you want to become a dentist, and your goals.

I don't agree your DAT needs to be above 24. Idk why people on here love to throw around "get 24 this, get 25 that"... much easier said than done. I do agree you should have a reasonably high DAT or at least a high TS. I'd say that's 21+ (personal opinion!).
My thoughts exactly. If you went off of how often people on SDN's say you should get a 24, you'd believe it's 50th percentile.

I feel like at the end of the day, a large part of it is that they want the dentists that are graduating from their school to help serve the state of Texas.

I received interviews to Texas schools as OOS. I had DAT 24+ and GPA 4.0+. I never attended the interviews because I had no Texas connection, and heard my chances were near 0 because of that. Best idea would be to contact students at those schools directly and find the stories of their OOS students who attend. Why exactly Texas schools? If you're looking for cheap, and you're competitive enough for Texas OOS, then you have a decent shot at the state schools which allows you to switch to in-state (UConn, UCLA, Rutgers, etc.)
