Over 40 group!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you buy hair coloring as often as pencil lead refills......you belong in this group!!!!!

I gave up and started just shaving off what little I have left.

It makes me look hip, sexy, and young as opposed to old, creepy, balding, and thinning.

Ok, who am I kidding, I still look old.

I used to pull out my greys when they popped up, but anymore that would make me look like I had a shaved head! 😛

I just bought a nose hair trimmer 😱

Nice! I was about to chime in and tell you what I just bought that made me feel super old, but then I realized that 1) it would have been a little too personal (even more personal than a nose hair trimmer!), and 2) I'm not even in the over 40 club so it would make me look super ridiculous!

It is rare that I am shut out of something for being too young these days, but heck, I guess I won't complain if I am feeling like a baby here at 34! I love all you guys!

(Sorry - couldn't help myself. Thought of it as I'm buying both today:laugh:)

What if you get the hair color MORE often?!? I went 'grey' at 22... The crazy part? My grey hair isn't grey - it's bright white! I'm going to look awesome when I'm in my 50s, but I'm covering it up 'till then! 😎

While I happened to be sitting to another member over the 4 decade crowd we overheard a part of this conversation...

Student 1: ".....and he is over 40"
Student 2: " Ewwwwwwww"

That pretty much sums it up!

We both looked at each other shaking our heads.

(by the way, student 2 happens to be my next door neighbor)

Ohhh I am soo glad I found this thread, although I do wish it was the “over 40 (but if your 35+ that’s okay too) thread🙂” Maybe this will help my membership:

Favorite TV shows: The A team and of course The Fall Guy (and I actually thought the A team movie did a pretty good job).

First video player: A beta, yes Beta

Sexiest movie star: Although I’m a huge Sean Connery fan, I have to go with Harrison Ford and maybe Nicolas Cage from his role in Valley Girl.

I'm 34 yrs old, will turn 35 in March. The vet I'm shadowing right now entered vet school at 36. Should be at least 37 when I start vet school. Went back to school wanting to do this after a decade-long college hiatus. Just hope they can look past my past. Looking at my transcript, one would think there was a mix-up and the info is from two different people. A lot of stupid stuff from back then, lots of President's Lists now.

If you put the effort in to build a good application, there is absolutely no question that they can look past your past. At UMN, for example, the GPAs they calculate are "all pre-requisites" and "last 45 credits" ... so it's entirely possible your history won't even impact the academic portion of your evaluation. I went in to meet the (former) director of admissions there with similar concerns, and he literally laughed at me and said "We see people like that all the time."

Ok I am checking in at 29 gonna be 30 in July. I know, I know you're laughing and saying, "WTH?" Welp, lemme tell you my knees are so arthritic from 20+ years of basketball that I moan every morning when I get out of bed. Bilateral patellar tendinopathy is the diagnosis after 3 MRI's over the years. I can't sit in a car for more that 20 minutes without excruciating pain... Of course, I still play 3-4 times a week and hold my own with the young'uns->"for the love of the game" they say.

Nevertheless, I am posting here because I feel old. I feel old a lot!

Okay, I am off topic, let the criticism begin... lol

i'm 39 and in my first year. we have a few older than me, and a good number of 30 somethings and late 20 somethings in my class. I have the very good genetics and fortune that nobody believes me when i tell them my age...feels nice, i guess. yea, i feel a lot older sometimes, but for the most part i dont mind-we're all here for the same reason, i just happened to have come upon the decision after a different career! woot.

Haha, good to hear that and I appreciate your response. My overall cumulative for everthing is a 2.71 (ugh). Lots of W's and a few D's and even F's. I was pretty stupid about it then. But most of the screw-ups don't apply toward what I'm doing now, and there are a few shaky general ed grades from back in the day, but for the most part they're ok. Could retake a few things and bring those grades up very easily. There were a few cases where it would have limited me on retakes. I took them before and thus only had 1 more shot at them to make it right. But that was general bio I and intro chem, both of which aren't the sort I should need extra attempts in - I have retaken both in the last year and did well, no need for a third go at 'em.

Pretty much all of the pre-reqs they'll be interested in were taken since fall 2009, and I was pulling a 4.0 on all that stuff until I got a 3.81 for last semester (grrrr...). Plus I have not even started into last 45 credit territory yet.

TomtheK9Fixer, I know what you mean... this getting up and down from the floor doing tech stuff is rougher on me than it would have been a few years ago!

Don't panic. Here are my GPAs:

College #1: 1.74
College #2: 0.00 (one class, quit going)
College #3: 3.98 (a decade later...)
College #4: 4.00
College #5: 4.00

(The last three were a mix of universities and community colleges to race through my B.A. and my vet school pre-reqs as fast as possible.)

It's doable!

Yeah, I was right about where your #1 was (maybe that exactly), 2.71 is what I've rebuilt it to thus far. And like you, a decade or so later. Nice work on yours!

Although I'm not in the over 40 group, I am in the over 30 and will be starting somewhere this fall. I graduated with my bachelors over 10 years ago with a 2.86 and have worked my tail off over the past few years to bring it up to a 3.20 now. I've been accepted to 2 out-of-state schools already and am still waiting to hear from my in-state but it is definitely doable to overcome a low GPA from years ago. One of the interviewers even said something along the lines of "but that was a long time ago and doesn't reflect your current grades" when I mentioned a low GPA as a weakness in my current application so they do forgive us some for our grades from years ago!

Arghh.. I'm old, cranky, can't hear, can't see, can't eat the way I want, and apparently can't remember the names of all the stupid muscles, blood vessels, and nerves.

I'd like to add...completely set in my ways and just generally annoyed when classmates talk about how broke they are...yeah, well try supporting a husband and 3 kids on those school loans baby!

Although I'm a huge Sean Connery fan, I have to go with Harrison Ford and maybe Nicolas Cage from his role in Valley Girl.

Nicolas Cage is totally HoT!

When I went back to school for my pre-reqs all the kids thought I was a suck-up for sitting in the front row of my classes. Little did they know it was the only way I could hear the teacher and read the whiteboard.

Yep...this is me too!
