Overseas Tour Extension Incentive Program Navy

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What is the incentive?

A bonus payable in lump sum or monthly installments in an amount designated by each service secretary, not to exceed $2000.00 per year...

The incentive is $2000?!

I think it's $2000 to stay where you are, not to extend your commitment. Hell, depending on the location and family condition I think some people would be willing to pay $2000 a year to stay there and not have to deal with moving...

Might be ok, but it's impossible to tell from the website. Not nearly enough details, and not the clearest of wording. I'd go ask finance or personnel or someone at the MPF for some sort of instruction or regulation spelling out the nuts and bolts of the entire program. Especially so as to make sure that there aren't any hidden or unexpected clauses where taking the bonus extends your overall commitment beyond the year or something weird like that. There's always a bunch of strings attached to every dollar the military gives you.

I looked into this a few years ago and at the time it was only for enlisted, not officers.

Yeah, I get that impression now. I'll try to track down the right person at my hospital. I'm sure they will refer me to another person and another person. And then the last one will tell me, "no, it's only for enlisted...you idiot."

So is life in the military. Less than 18 months to go. I think I can, I think I can.
