I'm considering taking immunology as P-F my senior year before I apply and maybe even taking genetics P-F. Do you think that would be seen negatively on my application? I don't need either of those classes for my major, but I do think that they would be helpful in preparing me for medical school sciences. What are your opinions?

In my opinion, taking classes that are essential in med school P/F might look negatively on your application. Realize that they don't know the grade youre getting, so they might just assume you got a C or D in the class and didn't want it to show up on your transcript. You could take one of them and ensure an A rather than take both classes, since they are very intensive.

If I'm remembering correctly a P is 75%>. But fair enough.

Ah, my bad. At my school, a P is a D, which is usually a 60 or 65. I don't know what med schools hold as their standard. I actually passed my first class this semester (Spanish 101) because I had three very intensive science classes, and I didn't have time to learn language from scratch. I talked to my pre med advisor who said it was fine since I wasnt passing a class like Biochem which med schools would like to see the grade to. Whatever you decide though, good luck! 🙂

medical schools will see a P and consider it a P. This idea that it gets recalculated in their minds as C or something similar is not based on any evidence I have seen.

I took immunology P/F my senior year and it hasn't been brought up during any of my interviews. IMO, just make sure your other science grades are decent before you take one P/F.

I guess my adviser was wrong then haha. There you go, good luck!

Mine too I guess (surprise, surprise).

I always heard not to take science course P/F, especially those important to med school. Maybe it was more based on the fact that it might not be the best use of time. If you're not trying for good grade in those courses, is it worth it to take them? (Like, would you learn enough to make them useful for med school if you only need to pass it?) I love biology, don't get me wrong. And I really enjoyed both Biochem and Genetics, but I don't think I would have chosen them if I had some free credits to use up. I would have done some history or literature class P/F. That's just me though.
