I did a search but mostly only found school-specific information. I'm curious what different types of ice-breaker activities all you former P1's suffered through. Our first-week orientation agenda just arrived, and it looks like there are a bunch of lame social engagements with required attendance, e.g., formal ice-breaker session, ice-cream social (the absolute lamest), picnic, group breakouts, blah, blah, blah.

I'm really feeling uncomfortable about participating in all of these "get-to-know-you nightmares." So how bad can it really be...right? Please share your stories so my fears will be confirmed or so I can sleep the night before our first day. [where's the smiley for uuggghhh?]

Cheer up it's a privilege to participate in these lame activities...I can't wait I'm sure there are many people who would trade spots with you in a heartbeat try and enjoy it and good luck🙂

My school presented orientation as a 1 credit class in the P1 year (the week before school actually started). We did a lot of ice-breaker type activities, but also included informational stuff about campus safety, professionalism, substance abuse and school organizations. We also worked on an introduction to medical terminology during that week. Most of the cliques that formed during orientation have shifted two years later.

Exploit the lameness. You'll spend the next 3 years with the people you meet.

Campbell U does " PIG PICKIN' " where they have a picnic kind of thing. The shocking part for me was a whole pig that was roasting on the fire with an apple in the mouth.. S H I T i only saw that in the cartoons..

Ha, ha. I feel your pain, monsterbrain. I am starting P1 this year as well, and I definitely feel more comfortable in smaller groups, rather than all these large social situations I have to attend. I'm thinking that it's better to try to get to know people in the beginning though, since we'll be working closely with our classmates for the next three years.

That would set a tone for me. If I see a roasting pig my first week, the next four years will be weird to say the least.
Basically as long as there is no ceremonial roasting I'm sure my orientation will be great.

Dude, I wish I had a pig pickin' good time during my orientation. The schedule we go look like 4 solid days of trying not to doze off too obviously. Snoring is frowned upon.

Ditto, in our orientation they basically just sat us in a lecture hall and tried to grain two points into our heads.... point 1.. don't cheat or you'll get kicked out of school.. point 2.. school is expensive, budget so you can pay us back afterwards and then they went over a slew of errands we had to do before school started (fin. aid, ID pictures, health clearance issues..blahblah)
