My family is from a small island near papua new guinea, so i guess I am "pacific islander"...would I qualify for URM?

It depends on the school. For instance, Hopkins recognizes pacific islanders as URM. I would recommend that you check the schools URM definition. Under-represented minority (Hopkins Definition) Currently includes African Americans, Mexican-Americans, Native Americans (American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians), Pacific Islanders, and mainland Puerto Ricans Source: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Medicine/diversity/urm_definition.html
