Hey guys - i was just wondering if there was anyone who was planning on attending Pacific this coming fall (or is a current student) and is looking for a roommate. Housing isn't that expensive, but it would be a lot cheaper to even cut the rent in half. Pacific has a "housing network", but there aren't very many posts on there. So if you're looking for someone, or know someone who's interested, let me know! Thanks!!

Hey,

I just found out that I got accepted to Pacific for 2006. 🙂 I'm from Hawaii, so I am also looking for housing...may be somewhere in Hillsboro. I don't think I want to live in Forest Grove...it's a little too country for me. But...I was thinking that I might want to reside with a fellow classmate. Let me know if you're interested. 🙂

Congrats eye_love-u on your acceptance! I had a feeling you were worried for nothing! (I'm not looking for a roomie or anything, just wanted to congratulate you and I'll see you this fall!)

prettygreeneyes,

you decided on pacific then? I thought you were waiting on Wiche funding response? why pacific over the other schools you applied to such as ICO and SCO?

thanks

hey, know this is sorta unrelated to the topic on hand..but i'm planning to apply for pacific (yes yes, i know i am EXTREMELY late in the apps cycle 🙁 ) but i've been waiting for my optometrist's evaluation to be finished so I can put it with my materials..my concern is that I do NOT want to rush my evaluator to complete the form, but I can't submit my app without the form..does anyone know if it's okay if the evaluator can submit their evaluation to the school directly or does it NEED to be included with all your application materials??

and does anyone know how many seats have been filled at pacific?
i'm too scared to call and ask 😳

Thanks!

It is my understanding that Pacific prefers to receive all of the application materials at once. But, with that being said, you should call Janelle Holmboe at (503) 352-3145 and ask her. She is extremely nice and helpful, and will let you know what the best course of action is! As far as how many seats were filled, I know that on Interview Day, they had accepted 75 or so students so far. From the 15 people that interviewed that day (this was on 2/3/06), another 10 were accepted. Their usual class size is somewhere around 88. But, before you freak out, they usually accept a lot more students than their class size because most students are applying to more than one school. Again, call Janelle if you want the exact number, but don't let that discourage you from applying! I know that you don't want to rush the optometrist completing your form, but you have a little less than 30 days left, so I'd delicately point that out to him/her. I wish you the best of luck. Pacific is a great school! p.greeneyes

Yes, I have decided on Pacific. I am still nervously waiting to find out about WICHE, but even if I don't get it, I will still probably be attending Pacific. Here some of the reasons why I feel Pacific was the best fit for me.

1. Very welcoming atmosphere. The students, staff, and faculty were all willing to answer any and all questions I had. The clinical dean in particular, Dr. Ken Eakland, was very approachable and willing to discuss with me at length my concerns about the clinical population considering Forest Grove has a population of only 30,000.
2. Beautiful campus and surrounding area. I fell in love with Forest Grove, Portland, and the Oregon coast.
3. Several experts in their respective fields, particulary contact lens and pediatrics, two personal interests of mine. (Yes, I know that every school says their faculty are nationally acclaimed in their fields.)
4. The partnership that Pacific has with Nike (world headquarters are in Beaverton) would mean some experience with sports vision (an interest of my husband, who will also be attending opt. school in the future.)
5. House prices. There is no way on God's green earth I can afford a house in Chicago. I can't even afford a parking space in Chicago.
6. I liked the "small town" feel of Forest Grove with the convenience of Portland, a big city, close by.
7. I really got the feeling that Pacific's clinical education was "going places." They are constant making improvements to the program, bringing in new people with new ideas. I felt like the program was evolving into something new and better, and that I could be a part of it. The Hillsboro clinic will be opening in 2009-2010, and my class will be the first fourth years 😎 to rotate there. (ooooohhh...aaaahhhhh)
8. If I do get WICHE, I'll save a bunch of money!
9. Oregon is a lot closer to Nevada than Chicago, meaning I can drive home to see my family instead of fly.

With all of this being said, ICO is also a great school. I believe that they produce some of the most outstanding clinicians in the nation. I loved the program and the facilities, but Pacific just felt "right" for me. As far as SCO, I never did actually apply. After going to Pacific, I did not want to go through the additional time and expense of applying to SCO. (But, the house prices in Memphis are crazy cheap, so I may regret that when I get my loan bill.)Let's hope I made a good decision! 😀
