Hey folks,
Any advice on best time to apply for pain fellowships?
What is a typical day like for pain fellows?
How bad is the call? Home call, in-house, overnight?
Is research in pain necessary to get a top fellowship?
What are the top west coast fellowships?
Who should write the letters of rec?

thanks.

I'm not a fellow, but I've spoken to a few graduating fellows.

1. Now is the best time if you are a PGY-4. Otherwise, start getting things together in July.
2. This is really dependent on the program.
3. Some programs like BWH have overnight call and I heard it can be busy.
4. No, but it helps. Some programs value it more than others.
5. The top programs in the West Coast are UCSF and Stanford.
6. I don't know what the best answer is, but at least one has to come from your Program Director or Chairman. I think you should get at least one from a Pain attending. The third one should come from the person who can write you the strongest letter.
