Hey all- I had a palm pilot during my third year of med school but it died and I haven 't replaced it. Now I'm thinking of getting a new PDA for residency--wondering if you all have any recommendations. I don't need the latest/greatest, looking to spend 200-300$.

Also, what programs/references have you current residents/attendings found useful for Ophtho?

thanks a bunch

hey i am going to be getting a pda soon...i am going for the Treo 700p...it is supposed to be a great product that is a combination of both a phone and a pda...however, it is a bit on the expensive side ($500 for a new one w/o contract)...you can check out further info at howardforums.com

if you want only a PDA, you can't go wrong a Tungsten...it is supposed to be a great PDA...i really do not know the prices...you can google it

about the PDA programs - i really don't know either...i would also like someone to shed some light on this matter...along with ophtho programs, what others are a must for MS3 and MS4 years?

Treos are great phone/PDA combinations; I am currently using Treo 650 and love it. Treo 700p just came out on CDMA networks- Verizon and Sprint; The price with a 2 year contract is around $399; w/o contract $619 to $649. Remember that the no contract ones can only be used with the respected network. GSM version of Treo 700p is not expected to come out until at least 12/06 or later. The initial price will probably be around $699 or so (based on Treo 650 experience).

If you don't want the very latest technology, I'd recommend looking into getting Treo 650; the prices have dropped tremendously since news of 700p came out. Both CDMA and GSM versions are available. A lot of Treo 600 problems have been fixed with the 650.

There are just a few advantages of 700 over 650: slightly better form factor, EVDO technology (faster internet), better multimedia and camera software.

I have the Wills, eOphthalmology, iSilo documents ( from Iowa's great website), a drug program, a medical dictionary, and an ICD-9 code program on my 650 and use it constantly.
