hi all!!!
i have started this thread so that all who appeared for Part 1 on 11th july can share their experiences and what scores they expect...

........kevin

I did part one yesterday.Anatomy and Bio&Phys went smooth, but i think micro and dental occlusion were harder. In fact they exagerated it with questions about heights of contour and interproximal contacts. You get kind of out of concentration after 6-7 hours and confronted with mile-long questions.Anyway, I am now waiting for results.

What do you think when can we expect results from written test.

All the best to everyone, and I hope everybody who did it yesterday, get good scores.

hey i agree with degol ..........anatomy and biochem where cooler than micro and DA............and i felt there were only a few repeat questions..........and a lot many on heights of contour that too facial and lingual...................DA took me a longer time to complete...............to go on with the same pace all thru the paper is very difficult .........u have mental fatigue ............but i found paper based more convienient then computer based ............as per my experience.........though its the first time i took this exam ........but it depends on the person ..........how he/she is convinient with...............
i will jot dot some of the questions ........which i can recollect ....very soon

Hi Everyone
Gave my exam yesterday but not happy with my performance.I felt anat,phy/biochem was not easy.MicorPatho was relativily easier than rest and it also had some repeated qs.Dental anat was really crazy.About half way thru the paper I just couldn't use my brain .It was almost as if it was dead.
I felt computer comparitively less stressful and better.
I was surprised at the way the dental students from here finished their papers faster and way ahead the test end time.
Will post more about the exam and the qs once I am out of my tiredness.
All the best with everyone's result.

I agree with u two, the second half was more tough as compared to the first.
Pls donot bother with those tooth daigrams pics there were not any in the paper.
Heights of contour was really asked. Occlusion has to be worked out very well too. It gets tiring by the end,and in DA one has to read the questions twice or thrice before answering. So be careful.

Shall jot down ques and post in a day or two
Best of luck sjchand and degol for your results

Hi Guys,

My experience in taking the exam. Sorry I will not be able to post any questions as we were specifically warned not to let exam confidentially out as it was National Exam being conducted and also ..that many staff members of schools frequent the SDN website…!!!..it is highly illegal to leak exam q… we were told ..
Dental decks-(10-20%..only indirect questions)
Kaplan notes(40-50%)
Other sources(50%)text books/BRS / general knowledge
Couple of cased based q too.

Anatomy section was tough..along with biochem/physio q ..there were many thrown in for the loop!…The afternoon session takes a toll on your brains…DA and micro was also equally tough. ..no diagrams in DA…..Even the American students were struggling to answer q…!! There were a lot of questions from textbooks ..and kaplan..…if you know your theory well ..you can answer…There were definitely some stuff that I hadn't seen EVER before….!!There were hardly many repeats from unreleased or past papers ….Study your subjects very well….from text books.. ..internet websites…….increase your knowledge. ..Do not take your exams in a hurry….take your time fully prepare(6-8 months of prep is easily needed according to me and the ONLY take your exams…there is no point in taking it again if you are not prepared well for the 2nd time also.It takes a whole lot of stamina to go through with the whole exam… You have no time to sit and think ..just keep answering the questions…I had to hurry up at the end 20 questions in each session as there was a shortage of time. The test was more difficult than past exams.
Just happy that it is over. 🙂
Good Luck with results :luck:

BRS IS BOARD REVIEW SERIES....personally I like kaplan much better than BRS......its just not about books.....its about how much you know by the end of the day......so concentrate...revise kaplan and decks......

Hi Guys ..

BRS ..is called Board Review Series..it is book used my many students...to study for the board exams
You can get it from amazon..or even barnes and nobles..buy a used copy..and go through topics and q at the end of each chapter...
Best of Luck :luck:

i may have to disagree that there were no repeats...there were repeats but not as much as previous years..in previous years, the same type of concepts were tested, however, this exam was not like that. this year may have been different b/c of the total randomness of some of the questions...old exams were helpful so i wouldn't make the mistake of not looking at them....i didn't use kaplan so i can't say how many questions came from it...i am not going to jump the gun and say i rocked the exam but i think i did ok...anatomy was the toughest in my opinion. there were quite a bit of q's on height's of contour in DAO. the occlusion was very straightforward except for maybe 1-2 q's...otherwise,it was fair...by the way, those unreleased exams were of NO use at all!!!! not a single repeat (i think). but if you're taking the computer based,i would still look at them thoroughly since some q's may show up.

For me I think this exam was really tough but in Anatomy and Micro, there were a lot of repeats and indirect repeats.

Anatomy was neither easy nor difficult, but the questions asked a lot about detailed
Biochem-Physio in my opinion. A lot of questions for enz, and some words, I have not seen before!! I am serious.
Micro-Patho was ok, there were only 2 types of questions: really easy to answer and really difficult( approx25-30).
DA was the most crazy. I spent a lot of time with it and the questions were so crazy!

thoughts? will they curve this??

dr.fun

i m not happy with my performance, result will tell how we all did .
but how much wrong answer u expect out of 100 que in each subject?
i found patho, anatomy more difficult.but i m really confused , can not say what was easy , only result will tell & it is a long wait to know that.
hope we all get good score.
sushila

I completely agree with drfun. I have no idea how I did my biochem physio. I guess we have to just wait for the results.

I think i have read somewhere how many correct answers you need to have for, lets say, 90 percent score.

Correct me if i am wrong:

Anatomy 73
Bio-Physio 73
Micro-Patho 69
Dental Anat 84

Am I RIGHT?

Hi,
I think for me the second half of the exam was tough. micro/patho & D.A!!! I thought anat & biochem/physio were relatively better, but i don't think i can say any of the papers were easy!!
Anyway, the bottom line is that we are done with it.....so lets take a well deserved break 🙂
lets hope &pray for the best!
👍

First of all, congratulations on completing the part I's!!

It seems like there are a lot of conflicting info regarding repeat questions and difficulty level of each section. Could the people that have taken it, post some additional information regarding their preparation level? Something like:

1. How long did you prepare for?
2. What materials did you use?
3. Did you look over the 1999, 2000, 2002 + 2004 unreleased exams?
4. What score were you aiming for? (Any 95+ gunners here?)

Thanks!!

Hey Guys,
Did any of you studi straight from dental decks and exams? Was it
more or less enough? Thanks

Hi guys,
I gave my exam the next day of paperbased test. After reading ur experiences I felt DA had a lot of repeats in CBT exam.No picture questions except for Posselt's,Patho/Micro was quiet tough.Like someone said Q's tht had never been heard of. Biochem was also tough.
Decks and papers only - I think more material shud be referred to.
thts it,lets hope for the best

What is CBT? And you think decks and papers are not enough?
Thanks

CBT is computer base test. You can take NDBE on both the computer and paper.

Only the deck is not enough.

Hi,
What else would you recommend besides the decks. I mean i use books to refer to things if i dont know something. Like Anatomy i have the book with me all the time. Did you read books. WEll i had 5 weeks to study for this exam now only 2 so realisticly what can you read that can benefit you, in this time. I felt like decks covered a lot of stuff.
THanks

Hi liya,
Dont worry abt tht now.If its possible to get ur hand on USMLE first aid ,try tht.Just read it once.Things r explained in a very simple manner . Rest is just revision of decks and papers.Do the 96onwards papers well.I had a few DA repeats frm those papers.
good luck
