part1=85,part2=81..where do i apply..urgent!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
your score is decent... certainly a lot of people have secured admission with those scores in the past....However, things seem to get tougher each year so if I were you, I would apply everywhere except BU where they stress greatly on Part1 score. That way u will maximise your chances of getting in......

My two cents for what it's worth 🙂 ,Anyway, all the best.... 👍 👍 👍

hi treasure

thanks for replying and i guess you are right but if i could get some help in sorting out few where my chances seem to be really bright.
I had applied to NYU just with my part 1 score but they didn't accept as i gave my exams on jan i was too late in applying, well for next year they told me to upgrade my score.
If NYU says no then i was thinking if there would be any other university who would say yes or atleast consider for an interview.
Please advice

hi,
well to be honest, if possible repeat your exam .. a higher score willl definately get you admission. with 85 , ure again going to be hanging on thin thread.. whether ull manage or not.
this year even 85 was not enough to get admission in NYu.
u could apply to colleges on the west coast...or even upenn..
but too be definitely sure , a higher score is definitely preferable if u dont mind studying for the exam again.
hope u dont mind my frank opinion.

hi toothie...

Thanx for replying and sorry for the delay.
I really didn't mind your advice at all. I know i need to upgrade my score and will do but still i was thinking of taking a chance with atleast 1 or 2 universty
I was thinking of taking a chance.

Hi Simran,
maybe u should just go ahead and apply to all the schools possible including NYU. u never know what might click.
And at NYU you should make sure u mention that from the last time to this time u have an added part 2 score. generally they look for any improvement from the time u applied last. never know what might work out.
if i were u i would just go ahead and apply to all the universities that i am eligible to apply.
and if u improve ur part 1 score again u can always send ur new scores that way ur application is already there.
good luck 👍

Hello Toothie !
You said that 85 on Step 1 wasn't enough this year for NYU............WELL..........I know someone who got in with 82 and 244 TOEFL and no Step 2.

At least one person with Part 1 score of 85 who was interviewed In April this year got into NYU! One candidate with 86 got in as well. On the other hand one waitlisted candidate with Part 1 score of 90, who after receiving a call from NYU last week, was left high and dry. I also know of one or two candidates with 87/88 didn't make it to the final list. So it is very difficult to come to a clear conclusion.

hi jojo,rahmed,

Is that means ,guys withs 90s,may /maynot get ,and aswell as guys with 82 ,85,86 may/may not get through ???there are only 50-50 chances??is that What your trying to say?Is that purely luck !!!!!!!!! 😉 do you mean to say !!!!!! 😳 or some factors like being intervied well/good work expereince .??what makes this clear??
overall what i understand is, just apply atleast 1 or 2 schools eventhe guys with 85s and dont keep high hopes .. continue preperation again&not wasting time ,if u getin, well thats cool ,relse give again ?? thats what i have planed .what do you advice me guys ,
Am i going in a right way/simply wasting $ for application? 🙁 as i got just 86

I heard one or two members of different dental/medical school admission committee visit SDN forum to snoop and also to find out general discussions and current thoughts of aspiring candidates. Sometime they put comments etc. And they might at times change goal posts based on their perception of the future candidates/applicants of this forum..........Everything else we read on this forum is based either on personal experiences or pure speculation and heresay. No one, including current dental/medical/pharmacy students, have any first-hand knowledge of admission/selection criteria of say a particular dental/medical/pharmacy school. Of course certain selection criteria are laid down on the website etc. For example, cut off scores for DAT/MCAT/NBDE/TOEFL etc etc. My point is merit, board score/s, gpa, toefl, past experiences, references, interview technique, practical tests where applicable, your sales technique and not to forget lady luck play a combined role in success. We all can advice you or other members based on all those things I said just now. At the end of the day it's your life. How it unfolds for you is anybody's guess. No 2 lives are identical, however much one wants to mimick it. Of late I have come across several posts asking "My Part 1/ Part 2 /GPA/ TOEFL score is this......what are my chances of getting into a school/ which schools to apply etc etc." Who knows for sure my friends? A forum member got the last seat of BU from this year's waitinglist....and this person has a Part 1 score of 95, and waiting since January 2005! All we can do is to help each other in real need, make aware of the reality waiting out there......and not spoon-feed informations/statistics or mollycoddle. Miracle can happen (with P1 scores between 81-87), but why wait for it? Let's take conceivable destiny in our own hand. Sometime morning does fail to show the day! This is my 2 cents on various conjectures currently flying around in International Dental forum.

My scores are, and I have put it umpteenth time, 86/83/273/3.79. All dressed up and nowhere to go! Please do a reality check and retaking Part 1 may not turn out to be a bad idea at all amigos.

Good luck to all of us.
