I was just wondering if there are any other schools that do the pass/fail system because i think its a great way to learn in dental school. everyone in these good schools are really smart and there is no need for stiff competition every second. THanks

Many schools adapted this system, b/c it eliminates hardcore competition, which I heard sometimes had extended to even unethical acts from students. Like spying on others ...
Anyways, if you go to website of every school they have it in their website. May west coast schools, Maryland or Washington ... I've forgotten it and the rest also, but I have to re-look. This is an important subject indeed.

I believe Case Western also has a similar system.

UConn is also pass/fail

the ones i know of are UCLA, UCSF, Columbia, and Harvard (with P/F)

Case is for sure.

Case 2011

ucsf is pass/fail the first two years and then honors/pass/fail in the clinical years. columbia is honors/pass/fail all four years, which could transfer to A/B/fail. I guess it depends how you look at it, right?

Also, does anybody know which of the aforementioned pass/fail schools rank their students? I am pretty sure UCSF does not rank.

Ranked or not, the school keeps track of all students' performance.

I believe a Columbia student said Columbia notes on your transcript whether you were Top 15% of your class or not; no way to escape the ranking if you want a specialty 😉

No way no how, if you can specialize at Columbia, if you can specialize at Harvard, you can specialize anywhere.

Remember, even if you get by with just passing all of your classes in the pass/fail system...you still have boards to worry about if you want to specialize. Those at other schools who study hard to get good grades may have an easier time with board exams. Just a thought...

That might make some sense, but in reality most of these pass/fail schools like UCSF, UCLA, Columbia and Harvard consistently score tops on part I for the boards.
