Would med schools rather see a B or B+ on a transcript for a humanities class rather than Pass/Fail?

P/F wouldn't be affecting your GPA so I'd pick that over a B/B+ which would be around a 3.0- 3.3 if I am not mistaken. Ask Goro, gyngyn to confirm etc.

What if the B+ were in like Biochem? Is that preferable to P/F, particularly if the B+ could be the difference between a GPA threshold (e.g., 3.79 vs. 3.8)?

Well, I don't believe any medical schools accept pass/fail grades for prerequisites... so they would certainly prefer the B+!

hold on a sec, you guys can elect to get a P/F versus a grade?

i mean i went to a small school (~1750 students) but there was never that option, just P/F specific courses (like some labs, "study skills", etc)

That's ridiculous. Get the B/B+ and take another advanced class and do well in it. No one is going to be impressed that you passed and then retook a class and got an A the second time around. If anything, they'll think you had a C/D the first time around and chose P/F to cover it up.

A 3.79 is not really different than a 3.8. You're never going to have identical stats with another applicant to the point where that .01 makes a difference.

For some random humanities class I would lean towards them not caring either way other than how it effects your GPA.
