Reading through the threads of a few schools I applied to, I see that many people who were compete later than I was have already received interviews. Does this most likely mean a rejection is coming my way?

I'd say it's obviously not the best result possible, but it also doesn't mean that you will be rejected either. Kind of a middle grey zone I would say.

You'll just make yourself sick worrying about it. You can only go to one medical school anyway: the best case scenario is that ALL of your applications except for one will eventually be rejected, either by you or by the schools.

The process is maddening and impossible for applicants to tell how they're doing.

No. With 10000+ apps, why should you be the special snowflake and land an interview on 9/1/15? The cycle goes through springtime.

There is no way to know without direct insight into the admissions process at the specific school. Generally though, it's not over until it's over. Odds of it being over increase as you go into February and March.
