Does anyone know if one can obtain tech license with a criminal record?

I've called the state board and they said it may take longer than usual but shouldn't have any issues as long as nothing is currently pending. I have a tech who applied a few months ago but still hasn't gotten his so he's just working as a cashier. He said he got arrested a few years ago after being involved in a fight at a party. Any thoughts or advice?

It's definitely still possible to get a license. The biggest obstacle to receiving his license would be not disclosing his record on the application. The Board WILL find out, and he will have to explain himself to the board of pharmacy if he lies/doesn't disclose.

So FL is actually super strict about this. The applicant is going to need to get his or her record sealed or expunged if they want to get even a tech license. I have been at BOP meetings where people have literally cried over this exact issue.

Although was he simply arrested or did he end up getting convicted or pleading out? Simply being arrested shouldn't be enough to hinder anything if no charges ever came from it.

I had a guy that was hired and on his first day we found out he had not gotten his license yet (Opps!). But I think he can make a decent tech (he can count by 5's correctly past 30) so I sent him home and gave him two weeks to get licensed or else don't bother coming back. He did it and was one of the better techs I had (can count by 5's correctly past 90 by the end). Everybody is only worth their troubles I guess.

I have a colorful past. Licensed RPh in Florida. Never had an issue... Simply disclose and move on. I disclose it for licensure renewals, every credentialing event, and when I update my secret clearance. It shouldn't be an issue if it isn't current or drug/abuse related.

I am licensed in two states and have never had a problem with licensing or getting a job. I have two underage alcohol possession misdemeanors from over 15 years ago that will unfortunately be on my record forever...but I am always upfront and explain that obviously im not the same person that I was when I was 20 years old.

Tell him definitely to not try and hide it. They will see it and if he lies thats when problems will arise. If he is upfront its really not that big of a deal. Its not drug related he just got in a fight.
