I want to supplement First Aid path w/ only one other source. I have Goljan's lectures and his path notes and they're great---but I don't know if BRS may be more suitable. Any opinions?

You know, I HATE BRS Path. I don't understand why everyone uses it.

I have Pathophys for the boards & wards which I like a lot, and am considering using Goljan's Rapid Review instead of BRS ...is that "good enough" for the boards?

you know, when I started out, I hated brs path!! I think it was the format, I don't know, but then I did the tried, and true method...force yourself to read it. And it is so worth it. I won't say I love it, but I certainly agree with ppl, who say, it is a golden book, full of info. I also use Pathphysio for boards(love that book, but it lacks general path, which is a must for the exam, so, BRS, is you best bet for that) But this is my opinion, you need to do what is best for you. Good luck studying!

The 3rd edtion of BRS Path is a vast improvement over the 2nd - questions as clinical vingettes, better format, easier to locate important points. If you're using the older 2nd edtion, check out the 3rd.

BRS Path is probably one of the BEST review books out in the market. Honestly, I live by that book. If I were you, I'd use BRS Path and do questions from Robbins Review Question Book. G'luck.

Goljan Rapid Review is better than BRS path in the sense that it is more clinically oriented. He emphasizes pathogenesis and clinical findings for most, if not all the diseases mentioned in the book. BRS is good as far as pathogenesis of the disease but it lacks clinical findings(signs, symptoms, lab values) for most of the diseases, which I think is how step 1 wants you to approach the path questions. So I don't understand how ppl that did well in path using BRS could do so(may be they did a lot of questions....I don' know). You will see exactly what I am talking about if you flip through both books. However, I would not use the goljan 500 pg notes because it is too extensive and hard to memorize. Buy the goljan rapid review and understand and memorize it cold and if you have time, do the Robbins question book which I thought complemented well with goljan. And that's all you need for path......I promise a 270. 😉

What is covered in BRS Path that is not addressed in Goljan rapid review? Does BRS Path present more pure pathology?

Hey... I am in the process of studying... 3/30 test date. I have found that the best way to cover all of the path for me has been to listen to the Goljian Live Audio while following along in Rapid Review. It turn out that Rapid review is essentially the notes for Goljan's lectures.

My layout is I have Rapid review in front of me with a notebook to take notes in while I listen to the lecture. On my laptop, I keep Web Path open and pull up images as Goljan describes them during the lecture. This way I have an outline of the lecture as well as picture to see what he is talkinig about.

I highly recoomend this method. Goljan is incredibly candid I hardly ever find myself distracted from what he is saying. he's a little cheeky, but I think the guy is kinda funny. I would much rather listen to Goljan than try and pick out all of the meat from BRS or Rapid review alone.

good luck everyone.

I second this. He is really really good. I hope that he is as accurate for the Step as he thinks he is. I was listening to him today on my run and wondering why he doesn't put out his own, legitimate audio review for Step. It sounds like he could do the micro, path, biochem and maybe physio as well.
OSUDoc, ask him why he doesn't put out a lecture review series of his own or why Kaplan doesn't use his lectures for the WebPrep as opposed to the incredibly boring Barrone.
