I totally screwed the pooch with that 10:00 wake up. Apparently, because they didn't know how to schedule the labs for Bio. I had that lab today. It started at 9. 😱 I actually ran up to the lab with about half an hour left and asked them if I could join a later one. It must have been all the sweat dripping off of my face, because the TA said ya. I've deliberately skipped class many times, hell I've even skipped a test, but this was the first time that I forgot that I had a class.

You skipped a test? Intentionally?

DL in the lounge is that all >1K post threads are getting the lock.

Thus, IBTL

See, I think he meant 10K - but none of those had quite 10K. But the "Indian Women" thread with 3800 is still open.

I hope it's not really 1K - it's gonna be a pain in the @$$ to rename Antenna that often.

Yes. 😳 this was back in my lazy, formative years. I will be an underdog when application time comes.

Well, hopefully you can show improvement 🙂.

I was a bit of an underdog on the GPA side...

I'm enjoying my yearly debate in the pre-allo forum as to why my school (Chicago Med at RFU) doesn't suck. It's funny how the pre-med circle never ends, and baseless rumors keep getting spread amongst them.

I think I will retire from this debate at the end of this application season. I would love to urinate on all of these little punks.

Hey....not all of us look down upon your school. Feel free to piss on the rest of the premeds though and I'll be happy to join. Uptight little c---suckers. :meanie:

Lee says that other sites using the forums software report problems with threads @ 1K posts. It used to be 10K, but yes it will be a pain in the ass.

Ahhh, pre-med. How I don't miss those days.

Heh oh yeah they love to bash my little school, too. I'm okay with it.

Why are you up so early?
Man, during 2nd year I slept all the time.

Last week I was up too late, this week I'm up too early. I think you are just picking on me 'cause you like me.

I don't make fun of any school located in the continental US. At least until I have a spot somewhere......

Dropkick!!!

I had a pulm phys small group today and the leader asked us what it meant if we had an asthmatic who was in severe distress but not wheezing. I got it right!!!

Did you use the leg humping analogy?

Remind me of the exact leg humping analogy.
Me: "How could you not tell he was crashing?"
Resident: "Well he was still breathing....that's why I came to ask you about it."
Me: "That doesn't count as breathing....it's breathing in much the same way a dog humping your leg counts as sex. It's going through the motions but it's not doing much for the person involved."

Does/Did anyone's school require mock interviews with patients they hire to come in with fake illnesses? (They are supposed to have a certain illness and are trained on answers to the questions we are supposed to ask.)

Oh yeah. My school loves the standardized patients. We even have a standardized patient exam at the end of every rotation. Some of the "patients" were good; the professional ones who go to several med schools in the area were fantastic and really helped me learn a good exam. The locales that they hired for tests were not nearly so good and were often a waste of time. And it's weird to see them in the grocery store the next day. Gotta love being in a small town!

nights are now done.. i can "convert" to a normal schedule for now..

I'm kinda glad we don't have them, even though they sounded appealing on the interview trail.

I have to say that Step 2 CS was by far the easiest standardized patient test I did in my med school career. But they really overdid the whole standardized patient thing at my school...I didn't need 8 OSCE's last year to fully prep for Step 2 CS. 🙄

That's comforting to hear. I don't know how difficult they are here because they get progressively difficult, and I've only had 2 now. I know in the end we have to try to get them to say something they don't want to say, and they will lead us in all the wrong directions if we go there.

"And how does that make you feel?..."

These things are 100% pure dumb. I aced my school OSCE and passed CS and I felt my time (and money) was totally wasted. We discussed this previously and they never even validated this incredibly expensive test. I wonder what the failure rate is for 4th yr MD students. I cant believe more that 0.5% of people fail and I think that might be high!

It is actually higher than that. It hovers around 3%. I'm guessing the radiology guys fail it or something.
Seriously, that was one expensive lunch.

As of mid-May, the overall failure rate for all examinees on Step 2CS was 8 percent, which includes a 3 percent failure rate for students at LCME schools and a 17 percent failure rate for international medical graduates

Jeez.. It only serves to show my long standing point that medicine is about more than grades. That test was the stoopidest thing ever. I cant believe anyone who speaks english could fail that test!?

Simple. Don't wash your hands or offer them the sheet, you fail.
It is pretty lame, and its just an excuse by the USMLE to milk us of money while appeasing the AARP.

I think it is a money ploy.. such a dumb test..

I mean you are on your best behavior etc..

Have I examined a patient during my 6 months of residency without previously washing my hands? Yep..

Do I do it often.. Nope

Did taking the test make any difference... nope

The testing did too make a difference.
You now have another $1000 out there earning probably 4.something percent interest.
But that's the only difference.
