Would you recommend buying the new edition for the Pathology BRS? I have the one that's been out since like 1994....is it worth the money to get the new one?

If you've just begun (or will soon begin) your second year, then heck yeah, buy the new version. If not for the updated format, then get it because it's a great book and deserves your patronage

BRS Path is a really good book. I started Path reading Robbins throughly and skimming BRS and eventually just skimming Robbins and memorizing BRS as I felt that was a much better use of my time.

A mere $36 bux is definately worth the money to buy a NEW ED. BRS path book. You will be using it tremendously for boards as well. I would definately pitch in the money and get a newer edition--don't jeapordize your knowledge for a scanty few dollars--get it!!

Newest edition is the Red Cover 2002 as far as I know and I have not looked at the older edition and so can't comment on differences.

I do know that when I read Robbins I am usually left with some gaping holes in concepts and mechanisms (mostly due to boredom) and BRS Path does a good job in filling them.

I plan on attending Systemic Path class for the "Big Picture" and then reading BRS Path and Goljan Rapid Review Path while commiting the info to memory and using Robbins as a reference for topics I want deeper information on "and the pictures of course). I will make notes in BRS to use for Step 1 review.

I will certainly continue to do the Robbin's Review questions as we cover each subject as has been recommended here countless times.

To answer this question I think if you go back and read some of the step 1 reviews, books used and scores you will run out and get a new edition. It seems FA and BRS Path are pretty much the top recommended books by the people with awesome scores that contribute here.

Should i just get the Path one thats out now, or is it worth waiting untill nov., if there is one coming out? Also anything else thats a must have?

It would be smarter to start mastering BRS Path 2nd ed. now and worry about any updates in the theoretical new edition when it comes out. Seriously, the earlier you use a source, the better.

Plus, I did a couple of searches today and couldn't find anything on a new edition coming out...I would really like to see the source of that info... 🙂

I don't know the answer to your question littlelimabean. But I will say, however, if the new BRS Path isn't out by the time you START second year, get the "old" (2nd) edition.

BRS Path 2nd ed. is a great book and you do NOT want to waste time when you could be studying from it. Book releases seem to always get pushed back anyway, so you're best bet is finding a good source EARLY and memorizing it as opposed to waiting for the new edition.

When it does come out, you can thumb through it and pick out any key points that were omitted from the older edition. BRS 2nd ed. still has tons of molecular bio integrated into it, which is key in terms of studying path (like knowing that SLE is assoc'd with HLA-DR2/3 and IDDM with HLA-DR3/4).

I have BRS path, and i ordered the Rapid Review by Goljan (thanks for the heads up idiopathic and RLMD) ; Ill try to use both, we'll see. The questions 450 questions in RR cant hurt; I love review books, I dont really use any textbooks ever; so maybe having some extra review books for path wont be so bad.
