Hi Everyone,

I am due to take the Pathology Shelf on the 16th. I will be studying for it between the 10th and the test date (as I have exams prior to the 10th). Some students in my school have said that Kaplan Lecture notes for Pathology are very good where as some have said Pathoma is God sent. What do you guys recommend, especially if I want to do well on the Shelf? Are there any chapters that are lacking in Pathoma or Kaplan that would be better replaced by Goljan? What cocktail of the three would you guys recommend? Thank you for reading this 🙂

Yeah, I have the same question just about.

Is Cone that bad for the Kaplan Path videos? Should I just concentrate on getting through Pathoma 2 or 3 times? Thanks

do you have an opinion on the Kaplan Path LN? are there areas of pathoma that should be supplemented by other sources due to inadequacy? for instance, i have heard that valvular diseases is not covered well in pathoma. i am going to be reading the book along with the videos. are there areas of goljan that you think are superior to pathoma for certain subjects? thanks for the help.

I would supplement the biochem pathology of pathoma so the lysosomal storage diseases and nutrition. I found all the other sections adequate if you have been through 2nd year of medical school

I've done Pathoma multiple times and it's great, except for a few weak areas:

-Heart Diseases (Use Lily)
-Biochemistry diseases eg lysosomal storage diseases, glycogen storage diseases (use Biochem kaplan lecture notes)
-CNS (do your neuroanatomy well and you'll be fine)

Pathoma has weak areas, no doubt about that, but the thing is, you can cover them all pretty well if you do your subjects right. The CNS is a weak area which can be well-supplemented with a strong neuroanatomy; Biochemistry diseases such as Vitamin deficiencies etc are easily overcome with a proper biochemistry book.

The Heart is the only weak link in Pathoma that you'll have to go out of your way to supplement, I'm doing the chapter of Valvular Diseases in Lily, and it's proving quite helpful and sufficient.
