Actually if I had started med school straight from college I would be in my 3rd yr of residency right now.

I traveled the US while I worked. made some sweet money and lived life. many of my friends that went right to med school say they wished they took time off.. I have no regrets!

Oh, if I had started college and then med school straight out, I would be a 7th year attending, instead of an intern. But the time would not be traded for anything. Life is to be lived, not worked through!

Cheers to all those who realize the importance of life and the joys of living it.

Heck, if I'd have gone straight to med school, I'd be *long* out of residency.

I once figured out that I probably gave up approx $1mill income by teaching school for a couple of years & then staying home with my daughter instead of going straight to med school. Honestly, I took the better end of the deal, IMO.

IMO time with family is invaluable. The truth is the "lost" income argument isnt such a great one. You survived didnt you? My wife gave up 100K per yr to do a fellowship for 2 yrs so she could get a job that pays less than the one she left. Call it a lifestyle decision, but she is happier and so am I and when we have kids they will appreciate it.

Turtle said it right, life is not to be worked through you have to enjoy it and have some good experiences. BTW, this gave me the chance to travel to europe 4 times since 1999. Thats def not something I could have done if I went to med school then residency!

My wife and I have had the opp to do things that would have been impossible the other way.

Thankfully, I don't go back until tomorrow, either. I'll be at the medical examiners office.

Honestly, I've mostly been reading novels instead of any academic-type reading. I've got both step 2 scores back & feel quite lazy.

That is SO me. I've completely lost my study mojo since Step 2. I have the inservice exam coming up and I have no motivation.

My favorite time-waster lately is crosswords. Oh, and I shouldn't forget sleep. That's always a favorite.

Take care,
Jeff

Geez. If I'd done that, I'd be a PGY15 in 2009 and a hell of closer to paying off my loans. 🙂

Take care,
Jeff

Post nasal drip is my personal hell.
