Hate to say this, but you don't have to work in addiction city.
It's actually not as bad here as it was in Sacramento. It's just that in the morning I'm single coverage so I get it with both barrels. Back in residency ther were residents too (I guess that goes without saying). Nothing annoys a drug seeker more than an intern's 45 minute H&P. We've got FP and IM residents rotating with us now. Maybe I should turn them loose on the seekers.

😀 i do that a lot. Of course if we're really under siege, I stop by and tell them we'll do our best to figure out what's going on, we're going to give them something for pain, but we are not giving them narcotics. If he's a drug seeker, he 's gone before the intern gets there to do the work.

Years ago now, when I was an EM intern, there was a woman that, even in my (albeit more skilled than my peers) unskilled eyes, was seeking (the story was too good - "it started at 8:32am" and such) - her deal was renal stone. I thought her story STUNK and wanted to kick her ass out, but the attending didn't agree. This was in the days before the new CTs, so, that day, either one of two or two of three CT scanners were down, so there was a wait to spin her for stones. Of course, she's eating up the Dilaudid like candy.

The program director came in at 3pm, and, when we did walk rounds, she told the patient that she wouldn't be getting any more narcs.

Patient disappeared like a fart in the wind.

Successful ATLS completion.. 👍 APLS (not PALS) tomorrow..

Honorable mention to the drunk with the BAC of 380 who periodically wakes up and moans in his slurred way for pain med'cin.
I'm proud to say that I was not one of the aforementioned patients in your hospital, or any patient at all. Although I did spend several hours clutching a toilet in Caesar's Palace on Sunday morning.

I also stopped by the infamous In-N-Out Burger on Tropicana Ave. Double-double burger, animal style fries, and a nice pile of grease dripping undeneath of it all. No wonder there is an EM residency inside the joint. Not gonna lie though; it was really damn good.

Still waiting for the one here in AZ to open up.. Spring is the date I believe...

Sounds like an interventional cards fellowship should be instituted as well....

How you heard the song "I Don't Know What She Said"? Well change the girl's language from Spanish to Norwegian and that's how I felt yesterday with this girl I got to meet (LYRICS: I don't know what she said, but I sure like the way she said it)

btw i emailed inn n out.. they said it should open in 2006.

I found a new toy I want. It's an air cannon that shoots 2x4's.

You have to love the National Geographic Channel at obscene hours of the morning.

Especially when they are showing demonstrations of what tornado debris can do at various speeds using the aformentioned air cannon.

Do you know what one of the advantages to wireless internet is?

It enables the first known SDN +pad+ from a bathroom

Yes, I'm seriously bored.....it's my night off.

I'm so bored that I read the first 20 chapters of Rosen's in an attempt to make myself fall asleep.

But I have come away with a couple of new topics for research....

I have nothing better to do now than +pad+ like a mo'fo

If no one will help me, I'll do it all by myself

But between now and then, all I have to do is +pad+

I think this has officially crossed a line....

Perhaps I should go find something to eat....

I think I will settle for a can of cream soda and a couple of Pop Tarts

Oooh....they're talking about my favorite natural disaster on the Nat'l Geographic Channel
